Specialized Learning Services Consultant Position Overview: A Specialized Learning Services (SLS) Consultant supports the implementation and continuous improvement of specialized learning services throughout schools and across districts. A SLS Consultant collaborates with educators, service providers, and administrators to strengthen programming and instructional practices, while maintaining compliance with applicable education law. This role focuses on day-to-day problem solving, technical assistance, and capacity-building at the building and district levels. By partnering with colleagues, administrators, and educators, the consultant helps align general education, special education, and behavioral supports to strengthen staff capacity and improve outcomes for all students.
QUALIFICATIONS Required: A valid drivers license is required for employment. REAL ID is required if air travel is necessary to complete job duties. - Demonstrated ability to coordinate and deliver effective professional development.

- Valid Kansas Teaching license.
Preferred: - Masters Degree in Special Education, Psychology, or related field of study.
- Minimum of five years experience in supporting student support services in a variety of scopes (special education, early learning, social-emotional development, ESOL, Section 504).
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications ( Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Microsoft Teams.
- Working knowledge of Google Workspace tools (Gmail, Google Drive, Google Docs, Google Sheets, Google Calendar).
- Ability to learn and effectively use HRIS, payroll, and timekeeping systems.
RESPONSIBILITIES General Functions: - Support the SEKESC mission, goals, and objectives.
- Plan, design, and deliver content in a virtual and field-based setting, demonstrating initiative in outreach, preparation, and coordination with minimal daily supervision.

- Complete all assignments in a time-sensitive manner as determined by your Director or designee.
- Maintain timely and accurate documentation.
- Uphold strict confidentiality as outlined by FERPA and HIPAA.
- Implement and follow all SEKESC health and safety policies, including all precautions of the bloodborne pathogens exposure control plan.
Essential Functions: - Provide consultation and technical assistance to districts in a broad scope of areas (Special Education, MTSS, functional behavior assessment (FBA), behavior intervention planning (BIP), trauma-responsive practices, Early Childhood, Section 504, & ESOL..
- Demonstrate deep content knowledge in behavior, special education, early childhood, Section 504, ESOL, and MTSS student supports, drawing from professional backgrounds such as behavior consultation, school psychology, counseling, social work, or behavior analysis.
- Support districts in addressing complex and high-need behavioral cases through data-informed problem solving, coaching, and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams.
- Apply systems-level thinking to align general education, special education, and mental health supports within tiered service delivery models.
- Collaborate and coordinate with diverse professionals across multiple districts, departments, and partner organizations to support district initiatives and priorities.
- Partner confidently with building and district administrators, including consulting under high-pressure situations and supporting effective decision-making.
- Promote and support the implementation of evidence-based behavioral and instructional practices that create supportive learning environments and improve student outcomes.
- Design and facilitate professional learning, training, and meetings using adult learning principles, effective facilitation strategies, and coaching best practices.
- Provide individualized coaching and feedback to educators and teams, fostering trust, professional relationships, and continuous improvement.
- Respond in a timely and professional manner to requests for consultation, coaching, and technical assistance from district partners.
- Demonstrate flexibility in supporting multiple districts and initiatives, effectively managing time, priorities, and changing needs.
- Communicate clearly, respectfully, and constructively with district partners and service center staff, promoting collaboration and shared problem solving.
- Demonstrate cultural competence and promote equitable, inclusive practices across behavioral, instructional, and system-level supports.
- Exhibit commitment, passion, and urgency for strengthening systems to improve outcomes for all students.
Job Responsibilities: - This position requires the ability to travel statewide, in a personal or service center vehicle, and nationally, including air travel, and overnight stays.
- Work alone and collaboratively with staff and programs within SEKESC, from other Service Centers, or business partners to support the instructional resource needs of partner schools and districts.
- Coordinate and deliver professional development activities, modeling best practices to partner district administrators and staff.
- Refer partner school districts to agencies, departments, and business partners that may provide needed resources or services.
- Provide appropriate SEKESC supervisors with reports on specific professional development and services provided to district partners.
- Document frequent communications with district partners.
- Assist or direct the writing of required professional learning plans as needed.
- Ability to coordinate special events (i.e., workshops, symposiums, lunch & learns, conferences) to provide/promote student achievement.
- Keep current on changes and developments in the profession by attending professional meetings, reading professional journals and other publications, and discussing concerns of mutual interest with others in the field.
- Implement and follow all SEKESC health and safety policies, including all precautions of the bloodborne pathogens exposure control plan.
- Perform other tasks and assume other responsibilities as assigned by the Director or designee.
- Regular and predictive attendance as determined by the Director or designee.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS - Manage all job duties with mobility, agility, and dexterity.

- Requires long periods of sustained focus and concentration.
- Must occasionally work in noisy and crowded environments with numerous interruptions.
- Up to 80% of travel both locally, long distances, and overnight travel.
