Senior Specialized Learning Services Administrator Position Overview: The Senior Specialized Learning Services (SLS) Administrator plays a key role in supporting and advancing systems, programming, and services related to specialized instruction, behavioral supports, accessibility accommodations, and language development services. The Senior SLS Administrator will support the Director in providing leadership, coaching, and mentoring for Specialized Learning staff members. This role also collaborates with district and building leaders, internal teams, and regional partners to design and deliver professional learning, facilitate needs assessments and action planning, and support continuous improvement initiatives..Through leadership and consultation, the administrator supports IDEA, Section 504, and ESOL implementation, ensuring FAPE and LRE. QUALIFICATIONS Required: A valid drivers license is required for employment. REAL ID is required if air travel is necessary to complete job duties. - Valid Kansas Building or District Administrator license.
- Demonstrated ability to coordinate and deliver effective professional development.
- Demonstrated ability to create and implement professional growth plans for individuals, schools, and/or districts.
- Desire to continue career improvement by enhancing job skills and performance.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications ( Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Microsoft Teams.
- Working knowledge of Google Workspace tools (Gmail, Google Drive, Google Docs, Google Sheets,
Google Calendar). - Ability to learn and effectively use HRIS, payroll, and timekeeping systems.
Preferred: - Masters degree in Special Education.
- Experience in a building or district-level role with responsibilities for leading and/or coaching special education curriculum, instruction, assessment, and school improvement efforts.
- Management or Supervisory experience.
RESPONSIBILITIES General Functions: - Support the SEKESC mission, goals, and objectives.
- Position includes both in-person and remote work.
- Demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills.
- Maintain strict confidentiality as outlined by FERPA and HIPAA.
- Demonstrate proficiency in the ability to produce excellent work as requested by the executive team.
- Demonstrate proficiency in the ability to effectively and regularly communicate with SEKESC employees and constituents.
- Complete all assignments in a time-sensitive manner as determined by the Supervisor, Director, or designee.
- Adapt to changing work schedules and extended hours, as necessary.
- Reliable, dependable attendance and punctuality.
- Meet all safety requirements as directed by the SEKESC.
- Maintain timely and accurate documentation.
- Provide direct supervision, coaching, and support to Specialized Learning Services Consultants.
- Set clear expectations and team goals aligned to department priorities.
- Assign, prioritize, and rebalance caseloads/projects; monitor workload and deadlines.
- Conduct regular 1:1s, performance feedback if needed
- Lead onboarding and training; support ongoing professional development and growth plans.
- Build and maintain a positive team culture (professionalism, accountability, equity, and continuous improvement).
- Coordinate staffing coverage and continuity of services (as applicable).
Essential Functions: - Collaborate effectively with stakeholders across multiple school districts, internal service center teams, and regional partners to develop and deliver services and programming aligned to district needs.
- Facilitate, Consult, & Model support district improvement efforts, including needs assessments, building-based action planning, surveys, classroom observations and walkthroughs, and accreditation-related activities.
- Provide leadership and guidance to school teams in the development, implementation, and evaluation of behavior, Section 504, and IEPs in accordance with law, ensuring the provision of FAPE in the Least Restrictive Environment (LRE).
- Interpret and apply federal and state regulations and guidance within real-world district contexts, supporting teams in translating policy into effective, sustainable practice.
- Coach, mentor, and provide consultative support to multidisciplinary teams and district leadership, balancing legal compliance with instructional quality and student-centered outcomes.
- Partner with building administrators to support decision-making, including program development, service delivery models, and effective team facilitation.
- Support districts in evaluating programming, practices, and outcomes through data review, observation, reporting, and collaborative problem-solving.
- Design, implement, and facilitate high-impact professional learning experiences and forums aligned with state, SEKESC, district, and school improvement priorities.
- Stay informed of national and state trends, emerging research, and evolving initiatives in special education and apply this knowledge to planning, practice, and system improvement
People-Management / Supervision Essential Functions - Provide direct supervision to assigned Specialized Learning Services Consultants, including setting expectations, coaching, and ensuring accountability for service quality and professional conduct.
- Assist with assignment and management of consultant caseloads, projects, and priorities; monitor timelines, workload balance, and deliverables to ensure responsive service to districts.
- Assist with regular 1:1 check-ins, provide ongoing performance feedback
- Support onboarding and ongoing development of consultants through training, modeling, and individualized growth planning aligned to department priorities and district needs.
- Review and monitor work products and service documentation for quality, consistency, and compliance; provide corrective guidance and follow-up as needed.
- Assist with facilitation of team communication and collaboration through meetings, planning processes, and shared problem-solving, including coordination across internal teams.
- Address performance concerns promptly and professionally, including documentation of coaching and coordination of improvement plans as needed aligning and collaborating Supervisor and Human Resources.
- Serve as an escalation point for complex service issues with district partners and internal teams, ensuring timely resolution and continuity of support.
- Maintain appropriate confidentiality and professional boundaries while managing personnel matters, sensitive information, and compliance-related concerns.
Job Responsibilities: - This position requires the ability to travel statewide, in a personal or service center vehicle, and nationally, including air travel, and overnight stays.
- Work alone and collaboratively with staff and programs within SEKESC, from other Service Centers, or business partners to support the instructional resource needs of partner schools and districts.
- Coordinate and deliver professional development activities, modeling best-practices, to partner district administrators and staff.
- Refer partner school districts to agencies, departments, and business partners that may provide needed resources or services.
- Provide appropriate SEKESC supervisors with reports on specific professional development and services provided.
- Document communications with district partners.
- Ability to coordinate special events (i.e., workshops, symposiums, lunch & learns, conferences).
- Keep current on changes and developments in the profession by attending professional meetings, reading professional journals and other publications, and discussing concerns of mutual interest with others in the field.
- Implement and follow all SEKESC health and safety policies, including all precautions of the bloodborne pathogens exposure control plan.
- Perform other tasks and assume other responsibilities as assigned by the Supervisor, Director, or designee.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS - Manage all job duties with mobility, agility, and dexterity.
- Requires long periods of sitting (office and vehicle) and standing (while presenting, etc.)
- Requires long periods of sustained focus and concentration.
- Must occasionally work in noisy and crowded environments with numerous interruptions.
- Up to 80% travel both locally, long distances, and overnight travel.
