Greenbush The Southeast Kansas Education Service Center is seeking applications for a part-time Day School Nurse.
Anticipated Start Date: 10/01/2025.
Job Summary: This person will be instrumental in working with special education and school staff to enhance the educational process of students by maximizing their health and well-being, modifying or removing health-related barriers to learning, and promoting an optimal level of wellness.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:
- Completion of an approved 23-year school of nursing program and 2 years of professional nursing experience, or completion of an accredited four-year nursing program and 1 year of professional nursing experience.
- License to practice professional nursing in the State of Kansas, or authority to practice as approved by the Kansas State Board of Nursing.
- Must have an RN license or LPN license with the supervision of an RN.
- Current CPR/First Aid/AED certification (maintenance of certification while employed is also required).
- Experience working with school-age children, staff, parents/guardians, and healthcare providers.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Essential Functions:
- Accurately complete all health-related reports, as needed, and when due.
- Assess students daily for illnesses that may need attention. These instances should be addressed as per the designated school and/or institution guidelines.
- Administer emergency care as needed and complete necessary reports.
- Monitor the school environment for health-related safety and sanitary conditions and report concerns to appropriate staff for correction.
- Provide input regarding health-related issues for the IEP process.
- Monitor healthcare provider orders on students returning from major illness-related absences and assist with documentation for a shortened school day or other accommodations needed.
- Comply with all state and federal regulations, i.e., HIPAA, FERPA.

- Demonstrate proficiency in the ability to effectively and regularly communicate with other employees of the SEKESC and constituents.
- Complete all assignments promptly, including communication with other staff and families.
- Follow all safety requirements as directed by the SEKESC.
- Regular and predictive attendance in the designated work location as determined by the Chief Executive Officer or designee.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Chief Executive Officer or designee.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Lifting to 40 pounds.
- Manage all job duties with mobility, agility, and dexterity.
- Sit/stand for long periods of time.
- Work in loud/stressful environments.
- Ability to drive in varying weather and geographical conditions.
- Being exposed to infectious and contagious diseases.
- Being exposed to hazardous materials.
- Being exposed to work settings that offer a risk to personal security and that are not ADA-compliant.
