STARBASE Kansas City is seeking a dynamic, licensed professional educator to join our dedicated team. As part of the Department of Defense (DoD) STARBASE program, our mission is to inspire and improve the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) skills of at-risk youth by connecting them with real-world technology and positive role models found on military installations.

Our program serves primarily 5th-grade students from Title I schools across the Kansas City area. We offer engaging, hands-on STEM lessons that foster curiosity, confidence, and academic growth.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Teach STEM and other STARBASE topics to primarily 5th-grade students using DoD-developed lesson plans.
  2. Collaborate closely with fellow staff to deliver cohesive, team-based instruction.
  3. Promote the values of good citizenship, higher education, career readiness, and the importance of both military and civilian roles in society.
  4. Instruct students using 3D CAD software, 3D printing technologies, tablet-based tools, robotics, model rocketry, chemistry, physics, and other content areas outlined in the STARBASE curriculum.
  5. Support and contribute to curriculum development initiatives at both local and national levels.
  6. Participate in occasional overnight travel for national STARBASE meetings and training, as well as in-state travel for school visits, staff development, and program coordination.
  7. Assist with public outreach, promotional activities, and extended programs such as STARBASE 2.0 (middle school), 3.0 (high school), and community-based outreach efforts.
  8. Help maintain classroom facilities, equipment, and supplies.

Licensing & Certification:

  • A valid Kansas teaching license/certificate is required for employment.

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university
  2. At least three years of teaching experience in STEM-related subjects
  3. Strong organizational and administrative skills
  4. Team-oriented and adaptable, with the ability to manage multiple tasks
  5. Proficiency in STEM disciplines and instructional technologies
  6. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Five years of experience teaching in STEM fields, with a strong foundation in instructional practices and student engagement.

Salary Information

$60,000 annually. Salary can vary depending on education, experience, or qualifications.
