Fulltime position working with students with special needs in a variety of settings. 

 

Purpose: Provide direct support to students with behavioral needs by implementing behavior intervention plans and skill development strategies under the supervision of a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) or qualified supervisor. This position functions as a paraeducator and supports the instructional and behavioral needs of students with IEPs. This is a non-exempt position according to the Fair Labor Standards Act.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Current certification as a Registered Behavior Technician (RBT)- or ability to obtain within 90 days of employment.
  • Health and Inoculation Certificate on file in the Central Office (after employment offer is made).
  • 48 College Credits and/or
  • Associate’s Degree and/or
  • Pass Kansas State Board of Education approved assessment with passing scores
  • Selected by District Administration
  • Ability to work independently without supervision
  • Desire to continue career improvement by enhancing skills and job performance
  • Must work in noisy and crowded environments- with numerous interruptions

GENERAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Assist the classroom teacher- BCBA- and/or other t in the implementation of student IEPs and behavior intervention plans (BIPs).
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding all aspects of student and school-related issues.
  • Complete staff development hours each school year as required by the Kansas Department of Education for continued employment.
  • Communicate and work effectively and cooperatively with members of the school district and community.
  • React to change and frequent interruptions in a productive and positive manner- and handle other tasks as assigned.
  • Work to implement the vision and mission of the District.
  • Requires prolonged sitting or standing and use of office equipment.
  • Requires some stooping- bending and reaching.
  • Requires physical exertion to manually move- lift- carry- pull or push heavy objects or material.
  • Requires lifting or assisting in transferring students who have physical impairments or are wheelchair bound. Weight of 50 pounds or more- depending upon the age of the student.
  • Regular attendance is required of all employees- subject to allowed leave in accordance with district policy or negotiated agreement- as appropriate. Excessive absences or tardiness- unauthorized leave or unexcused absences may result in disciplinary action including termination of employment.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Implement behavior intervention plans and support behavior goals as designed by the BCBA or special education team.
  • Collect data on student behavior and skill acquisition and submit it according to team expectations.
  • Support students in general education and special education settings to promote access to curriculum and behavioral success.
  • Provide direct one-on-one or small group behavioral support.
  • Assist with the supervision and education of students as requested by the teacher- BCBA- and related service providers.
  • Support the implementation of social-emotional or behavioral programming.
  • Maintain accurate schedules and documentation of student data collection.
  • Establish positive relationships with students for classroom success.
  • Assist in the preparation and modification of instructional materials as needed.
  • Perform self-care or other tasks for students who have physical or cognitive limitations.
  • Monitor and supervise students in all settings- including classroom- hallway- lunchroom- playground- and during transportation.
  • Provide objective feedback to the teacher and BCBA on student progress.
  • Observe and follow all school district policies at all times.
  • Respond to information requests in a cooperative- courteous- and timely manner.
  • Keep student and personnel records confidential.
  • Implement and follow all District health and safety policies- including all precautions of the Bloodborne Pathogens Exposure Control Plan.
  • Take instruction from supervisors or persons of authority.
  • Perform other tasks as may be assigned by the building administrator or supervising staff.

Terms of Employment: Ten-Month Employee- At-Will

 

Evaluation: Performance of this position will be evaluated by the supervising Teacher and Building Principal according to USD 409 Board of Education policies and Kansas Statutes.

 

 

This position is a non-exempt position according to the Fair Labor Standards Act.
