Job Description 

 

Purpose: Coordinates transportation support for a complete range of curricular and extra-curricular activities offered by the District’s schools.  Operates a safe and efficient transportation operation that transports students to and from schools- and supports participation in school activities.  Assists the supervision of all assigned District transportation staff.  Maintains the physical interiors and exteriors of the District transportation facility and accompanying grounds in a condition of operating excellence- safety- cleanliness- and aesthetic attractiveness.

 

Reports To:  Director of Facilities 

 

FLSA Stats:  Exempt

 

Required Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent 
  • Possess valid commercial driver’s license (CDL) with required endorsements.
  • Demonstrated leadership- knowledge- skills- and abilities for this director-level position. 
  • Demonstrated aptitude or competence for assigned responsibilities to include financial/budget management and personnel management.
  • Meet all State requirements for Bus Drivers- including Defensive Driving and First Aid Certification. 
  • Be able to pass initial and random tests for alcohol and controlled substances.
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associates and/or Bachelors Degree in Business or related field with five to eight years’ experience and/or training in the area of facilities and maintenance.

Essential Functions:  To perform this job successfully- an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily.

  • Develop and administer a transportation program to meet all the requirements of the daily instructional program and extracurricular activities.
  • Prepare bus routes to serve the students in the District that are convenient yet economically feasible- to include preparing and updating bus schedules for the District.
  • Complete all District/State transportation and maintenance reports as required. 
  • Maintain all District-owned vehicles and equipment- to include preventive maintenance plans.
  • Coordinate and support principals and others responsible for planning special school trips.
  • Work with the principals and drivers in solving discipline problems occurring on school buses.
  • Advise the Superintendent on road hazards for a decision on school closing during inclement weather.
  • If required to drive a bus- must meet all bus driver qualifications.
  • Compliance with all State laws and regulations regarding school transportation.
  • Assists with the recruitment- training- and supervision of all transportation personnel- and makes recommendations on their employment- transfer- promotion- and release. 
  • Assists in the maintenance of safety standards in conformance with State and insurance regulations- to include the District’s program of preventive safety.
  • Initiates requisitions for purchases in accordance with budget limitations and District guidance and rules.
  • Submits all reports required by State authorities and/or the Director.
  • Assists in the development of recommendations for future equipment and personnel needs as required.
  • Supervises other District employees in a variety of tasks as assigned by the Director of Facilities.
  • Assists other personnel in emergencies as called upon.
  • Maintains a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information.
  • Performs such other related duties as assigned by the Director of Facilities.
  • Regular attendance at work.

  • May be required to stand- walk- stoop- kneel- crouch- or bend. 
  • Must work indoors- outdoors and in all weather conditions. 
  • Must work in and around dust- fumes- and orders. 
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds.
