Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Pass pre-hire and random drug testing screens.
  • Complete state-required physical examination for bus drivers and Inoculation Certificate on file in the central office.
  • Pass random checks (KBI- DVM).
  • Valid Kansas CDL with required P- S and airbrake endorsements.
  • Meet all state requirements for bus drivers- including defensive driving- CPR- and first aid certification.
  • Must work indoors and outdoors during the school year.
  • Must work in noisy- crowded- stressful environments- with numerous interruptions.
  • Must work in and around dust- fumes- and odors.
  • Skills to effectively communicate and coordinate with students- staff- parents- patrons- other administers- and State Board of Education.
  • Desire to continue career improvement by enhanced skills and job performance.

 

General Functions:

  • Implement and follow all District health and safety policies. 
  • Insure compliance with all federal- state and local safety regulations.
  • Provide clean- safe- and reliable transportation to ensure students benefit from district programs and activities.
  • Ensure all activities conform to state school transportation guidelines.
  • Communicate and work effectively and cooperatively with members of the school district and the community.  
  • Work to implement the vision and mission of the District.
  • React to change and frequent interruptions in a productive and positive manner- meeting deadlines as assigned.
  • Operate all vehicles and equipment as necessary.
  • Implement and follow the vision and mission of the district.
  • Participates in unit meetings- in-service training- safety workshops- etc. for the purpose of conveying and gathering information required to perform job functions.
  • Willingness to submit to random drug screening.
  • Any other duties deemed appropriate as assigned by the Superintendent of Schools.
  • Attend meetings as required and approved by the Superintendent.
  • Observes and follows all school district attendance policies at all times.
  • Regular attendance is required of all employees subject to allowed leave in accordance with district policy or negotiated agreement- as appropriate.  Excessive absences or tardiness- unauthorized leave or unexcused absences may result in disciplinary action including termination of employment.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Assesses incidents- complaints and/or accidents for the purpose of reaching and/or recommending a resolution.
  • Collaborates with internal and external personnel (e.g. other administrators- auditors- public agencies- community members- etc.) for the purpose of implementing an/or maintaining services and programs.
  • Compiles data from a wide variety of sources (e.g. investigating complaints- transportation budget/expenditures- etc.)- for purpose of analyzing issues- ensuring compliance with organization policies and procedures and/or monitoring program components.
  • Conducts accident investigations (e.g. reviews events- prepares and submits accident reports- etc.) for the purpose of complying with legal requirements and insurance carrier procedures.
  • Coordinates student transportation activities with school officials- department heads and other interested groups or individuals for the purpose of ensuring that district transportation needs are met.
  • Directs transportation department operations; the maintenance of services and the implementation of new programs and/or processes for the purpose of providing services within established timeframes and in compliance with related requirements.
  • Monitors budget allocations- expenditures- fund balances and related financial activities for the purpose of ensuring the allocations are accurate- expenses are within budget limits and/or fiscal practices are followed.
  • Participates in meetings- workshops and seminars for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions.
  • Performs personnel administrative functions (e.g. recruiting- interviewing- recommending- training- supervising- evaluations- etc.) for the purpose of maintaining necessary staffing- enhancing productivity of staff- and ensuring necessary department/program outcomes are achieved.
  • Prepares a wide variety of materials (e.g. maps- transportation budget input- route report- state reporting- etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities and issues- meeting compliance requirements- providing audit references- and/or providing supporting materials for requested actions.
  • Researches a variety of topics (e.g. new bus routes- bus schedules- new equipment/materials- bus policies- etc.) for the purpose of developing new program/services- ensuring program compliance with established requirements- securing general information and/or responding to requests.
  • Responds to a variety of inquiries for the purpose of identifying the relevant issues and recommending or implementing a plan of action that will efficiently resolve the issue.
  • Schedules regular inspections of all buses for the purpose of ensuring compliance with required bus drivers reviews of their bus.
  • Performs other related duties- as assigned- for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
