Kindergarten Teacher - KStars

Maize USD 266 • www.usd266.com

K-Stars Kindergarten Teacher at Maize South Elementary School.

KStars is a Kindergarten intervention classroom that focuses its day on 50% social emotional learning.  KStars helps students who are struggling with regulation skills and show delays in social emotional growth.  Students in this regular kindergarten classroom do not have a current IEP and are identified inside their home school's kindergarten classroom as students in need of social emotional interventions.  When the regular kindergarten classroom is not a successful learning environment the KStars classroom offers interventions to help students gain control of their feelings and emotions by using self-regulation interventions that have been explicitly taught to them.  Students continue on their academic path as in a kindergarten classroom but at their pace.  Students are hopefully reintegrated back into a regular kindergarten classroom and eventually into their regularly assigned home school.  Regular home communication is a vital piece of this classroom.  KStars is designed to serve no more than nine to ten students maximum.  Along with two paraprofessionals, the teacher to student ratio is 1 to 3.
