Title:  Director of Support Services

Reports to:  Superintendent of Schools

Supervises: Bus Drivers / District-level Custodial and Maintenance Staff / Office Staff for Support Services

Purpose and Objectives of the Position:  The Director of Support Services will strive to provide the best possible facilities, sites, and transportation services to enhance the educational and activities programs for Shawnee Heights School District.

Essential Job Functions:

I     Supervise, manage and evaluate the District sites including all buildings:

  1. Employ and evaluate District buildings and grounds staff in conjunction with the Buildings and Grounds Coordinator.
  2. Employ and evaluate District custodial staff in conjunction with the Custodial Coordinator and building principals.
  3. Budget and approve all expenditures in the buildings & grounds accounts.
  4. Work with administrators to develop priorities for building and site projects.
  5. Work with architects, engineers and other professionals to plan, bid, and oversee other special capital outlay and bond projects.
  6. Assure all buildings and sites adhere to local, state and national codes, statutes and other requirements.
  7. Visit all sites and buildings to establish needs and inspect condition on a regularly scheduled basis.

II    Provide supervision and coordination for the transportation program.

  1. Employ and evaluate transportation personnel in conjunction with the Transportation Coordinator and Transportation Fleet Coordinator.
  2. Assure all laws and regulations regarding transportation of students in Shawnee Heights School District are met.
  3. Establish routes and maps for the student transportation program.

III  Secondary Responsibilities:

  1. Performs other duties as assigned by the Superintendent in accordance with the provisions of the USD 450 Board of Education.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  1. College degree or training and experience relevant to responsibilities.
  2. Ability to work cooperatively and constructively with others, including the ability to communicate effectively with broad and diverse audiences.
  3. Ability to handle fast-paced, intense work environment.
  4. Ability to manage job responsibilities and meet established goals.
  5. Ability/willingness to work a daily schedule that could demand an extended workday and be on call for emergencies.
  6. Ability to observe and follow all school district policies at all times.
  7. Ability to react to change and frequent interruptions in a productive and positive manner, meeting deadlines as assigned.
  8. Ability to implement and follow all district health and safety policies, including all precautions of the Bloodborne Pathogens Exposure Control Plan.
  9. Must verify good health by passing a physical examination that includes TB and drug test as required.           
  10. Desire to continue career improvement by enhancing skills and job performance.
  11. Ability to keep student and personnel information and records confidential. 

Terms of Employment:  Twelve (12) month contract.  Salary to be established by the Board.

Evaluation:  Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the USD 450 Board of Educations policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel.

Shawnee Heights U.S.D. 450 is a Class 5A suburban school district located between the two major population centers of Topeka and Lawrence, Kansas. 

The district has a student population of approximately 3500 students in grades Pre-Kindergarten through 12th grade.  Four elementary schools, a 7/8 middle school and a 9-12 high school comprise the attendance centers of the district.
