Activities Director / Athletic Director

Location: Solomon, Kansas
Reports To: Superintendent of Schools
FLSA Status: Exempt
Contract: 10–12 month (based on assignment)
Salary: Commensurate with experience and qualifications

 

Position Purpose

USD 393 Solomon Schools is seeking a highly organized, student-centered Activities Director to lead, coordinate, and promote all extracurricular programs including athletics, fine arts, and activities. The Activities Director plays a critical role in ensuring a safe, competitive, and character-driven activities program that reflects the values of Gorilla Nation and supports the district mission of developing students who are academic-ready, career-ready, and life-ready.

 

Primary Responsibilities

Leadership & Program Oversight

  • Provide overall leadership and supervision of all middle school and high school athletic and activity programs.
  • Ensure all programs align with USD 393 philosophy, KSHSAA regulations, and district policies.
  • Promote sportsmanship, citizenship, teamwork, and integrity in all activities.

Coaching & Sponsor Supervision

  • Hire, evaluate, support, and mentor coaches and activity sponsors.
  • Conduct regular meetings and provide professional development opportunities for staff.
  • Address concerns involving coaches, sponsors, students, and parents in a timely and professional manner.

Scheduling & Operations

  • Develop and manage schedules for contests, events, practices, and transportation.
  • Coordinate officials, event workers, facility usage, and game-day logistics.
  • Oversee eligibility, rosters, physicals, and required documentation.

Student Experience & Safety

  • Ensure student safety through proper supervision, emergency planning, and risk management.
  • Monitor student eligibility and academic standing.
  • Collaborate with counselors, principals, and teachers to support student success.

Budget & Facilities

  • Develop and manage the activities budget in collaboration with the superintendent.
  • Oversee inventory, equipment purchases, and maintenance.
  • Assist with planning and supervision of facility improvements and usage.

Communication & Community Engagement

  • Serve as a positive representative of USD 393 with parents, community members, and partner organizations.
  • Communicate clearly and proactively regarding schedules, expectations, and program updates.
  • Collaborate with booster clubs, recreation commissions, and community partners.

Compliance & Reporting

  • Ensure compliance with KSHSAA, league, and district requirements.
  • Maintain accurate records, reports, and financial documentation.
  • Attend required meetings, workshops, and league functions.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Valid Kansas teaching license (required). 
  • Administrative endorsement preferred (or willingness to pursue).
  • Successful experience as a coach and/or sponsor.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, parents, and community members.
  • Knowledge of KSHSAA rules and small-school activities programming.
  • Demonstrated commitment to student growth and character development.
