The Lead Preschool Teacher plans and assists with daily activities for the children. They also work to facilitate activities for all children both indoors and outdoors.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS (RESPONSIBILITIES):

  1. Writes and implements lesson plans and develops classroom planning, both long and short term.
  2. Provides a warm and nurturing environment in which the children can grow.
  3. Assesses the child's day to day strengths and needs through observation and assessments.
  4. Maintains records as required.
  5. Maintains open communication with Assistant Teachers, parents and other staff members.
  6. Complies with Agency and departmental safety policies and procedures.
  7. Performs other tasks as assigned.
  8. Ability to hear, understand, and distinguish speech and/or other sounds in person.
  9. Ability to determine and identify items and children in the periphery, near, and far visual fields.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Associates Degree in education or human services required.  Bachelor's degree in early childhood or elementary education preferred.
  2. Minimum of 3 years prior experience working in early childhood education required. Experience leading an early childhood classroom preferred.
  3. Experience working with children with special needs preferred.

Any of the following qualifications are considered a plus:

  1. Early Childhood Unified teaching licensure in the state of Kansas.
  2. Early Childhood Special Education teaching licensure in the state of Kansas.

 

SKILLS:

  1. Must be a self-starter and work independently as well as a great team player.
  2. Ability to read and write the English language.
  3. Excellent written and verbal communication.
  4. Excellent people skills.
  5. Ability to perform work tasks within the physical demand requirements as outlined below.

 

FLSA CLASSIFICATION: Non-Exempt

 

WORK PACE: Self-paced, requiring the ability to think and act quickly and efficiently in a fast-paced, demanding work environment.    

                     

WORK ENVIRONMENT: This position operates in a classroom setting both indoors and outdoors.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Sitting:          1-2 hours in an 8-hour work shift; may occasionally alternate to standing or walking.

Standing:      4-6 hours in an 8-hour work shift.  Alternates to sitting on a frequent basis

Walking:        1-2 hours in an 8-hour work shift.
