The High School Counselor follows the negotiated teacher salary schedule, in addition it include 20 extra contract days over the summer months which increases the salary by those 20 days times the daily rate of the employee.

Job Description: 

 

JOB TITLE:            9 12 Counselor, Royal Valley High School

 

QUALIFICATIONS:             MS with counseling licensure or provisionally licensed

 

REPORTS TO:     Royal Valley High School Principal

 

JOB GOAL:             To provide personal and career counseling services to all high school students and

                                    to assist in the district-wide assessment program for 9-12 students.

 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  1. Student Counseling
  • Meet with individual students, as needed, including personal counseling.
  • Provide small group counseling as needed.
  • Consult with parents regarding student/parent problems.
  • Serve as community and social service liaison.
  • Serve on the RVHS School Improvement Team and School Site Council.
  • Attend special education IEP meetings.
  • Organize and facilitate enrollment for all RVHS students.
  • Support teachers working as educational advisors with students.
  • Assist with the development of the RVHS master schedule.
  • Serve as administrator and teacher sounding board.
  • Research new educational practices where applicable.
  • Monitor grades of all students failing one or more subjects.
  • Work with building administration in the RVHS Extra Help Program.
  • Assist the administration in monitoring student transcripts, schedules and credits so all students are working toward high school graduation.
  • Maintain cumulative records and action plans for each student.
  • Assist in the evaluation of the RVHS student counseling program.
  • Cultivate positive relationships with students by attending student activities.

 

  1. Career Counseling
  • Ensure that all students graduate from RVHS college and career ready.
  • Assist students with establishing a four-year college and career ready action plan when they enroll at RVHS and review those action plans annually.
  • Serve as a liaison between Washburn Tech counselors and students.
  • Provide career information to all students on an individual basis.
  • Responsible for program maintenance of the CATE student follow-up report.
  • Serve on the CATE advisory committees.
  • Report through the building newsletter important information about national test dates, post secondary information, scholarships and financial aid.
  • Work with Highland Community College, Washburn University and Washburn Tech to provide expanded concurrent classes for RVHS students.
  • Work with district webmaster to develop a career and college ready website.

 

  1. Assist with District-Wide Assessment Program
  • Work with the district assessment coordinator and administration to distribute, administer and report results for all state assessments.
  • Order, distribute, administer and report results for the following:
    1. PLAN (sophomores)
    2. PSAT (juniors)
    3. ACT (juniors & seniors)
    4. Work Keys Skills Test
    5. ASVAB Skill/Interest Inventory

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

 

Yearly contract, 10 months.  The extra twenty days are to be scheduled through the building principal and used to assist in the scheduling and enrollment of students and any other duties assigned by the Principal.

 

EVALUATION:         Completed by the building principal on an annual basis as per district practice.
