College and Career Counselor--At-Risk & Academic Success Coordinator USD 471 Dexter Schools

USD 471 has an opening for a College and Career/Academic Advisement Counselor and At-Risk & Academic Success Coordinator for the 2025-2026 school year. Applications will be accepted until the position is filled. Applicant must currently hold or expect to hold a Kansas teaching license, Counseling License, and/or building level administrative license.

We are looking for a passionate, self-motivated, and innovative individual who can build positive relationships, care about student success, enhance content with relevant experiences, and foster an atmosphere with a desire for learning.  This position will be geared towards academic initiatives, college/ career readiness/preparation, financial aid support, scholarship & post secondary opportunities for all students, at risk coordination, and other endeavors to help our students achieve success.  

The position will also assist in supporting the social emotional curriculum, under the guidance of a social worker (hopefully) to help meet the social and emotional needs of the students to provide individual counseling and group guidance to help students cope effectively with personal, social, academic, attendance, career, and family concerns.

The position will frequently communicate with parents, teachers, administrators, and supporting agencies concerning the needs and abilities of students.  

This job reports to the District Administration (Principals/Superintendents)

K-12 Career Awareness & Exploration:
Work with all students (K-12) to introduce and integrate career pathways and post-secondary options.
Implement age-appropriate career awareness activities, particularly in elementary and middle schools.
Coordinate district-wide career days, field trips, and industry engagement initiatives.

Manage and Support our "Walls without Curriculum Boundaries" Initiatives.  

Financial Aid/Scholarship/Grant Opportunities for Students


High School Testing Coordination & Support:
Lead in coordinating and administering high school assessments, including ACT, WorkKeys, State Assessments, ASVAB, CTE Certifications, and other relevant exams.
Ensure compliance with testing procedures and regulations.
Organize testing logistics and provide students with necessary preparatory resources.

Salary Information

Salary is based on the negotiated agreement and determined by educational level and years of experience.  Additional Compensation comes in the way of an extended contract and compensation for handling "At-Risk" administrative Duties.

Our district test scores have always exceeded standards through the hard work of our dedicated staff. The building is carpeted, air conditioned, and maintained extremely well. We have nice sized classrooms, a complete library, full computer lab, and offer all Kansas Board of Regent courses as well as a wide variety of electives.

We have 5 buildings on our campus. We have a K-1st grade modular building, a 2nd - 5th grade building, wood and metal shop, older gymnasium, and the high school buidling which houses grades 6-12 students.

Currently, the vast majority of our sports teams are cooperating with the Cedar Vale school district though we have separate school districts and separate board's of education. Our regular school colors are Red, White, and Black and we are the Fighting Cardinals. Our combined colors are black and gold with the Spartan nickname.
