District Wide PreK-12 Social Worker (.5)

USD #471 Dexter Schools is seeking a PreK-12 Social Worker (or counselor) for the 2025-2026 school year.  This position is a 1/2 time position or could be combined with a neighboring district to create a full time position (if there is interest in a neighboring district.)  

The position will work alongside and partner with the College and Career Academic Advisement position, but will focus on meeting the social and emotional needs of the student.  This position will provide a full range of services to meet the social and emotional needs of our students. (The mental health side of the school counseling position.) 

This position will also partner with school administrators, parents, and teachers to develop and implement plans that provide specialized social, emotional, and mental health support to help meet those needs of our students during the course of the school year.    

Essential Job Functions Include, but are not limited to:

  1. Consults with parents, teachers, administrators and supporting agencies concerning the needs and abilities of students.
  2. Provide staff with essential information to better understand factors (cultural, societal, economic, familial, health, etc) affecting a students performance and behavior.
  3. Assist teachers with behavior management.
  4. Provide direct support to staff.
  5. Provide crisis intervention.
  6. Assist with conflict resolution and anger management.
  7. Help children develop appropriate social interaction skills.
  8. Assist children in understanding and accepting self and others.
  9. Assess students with mental health concerns.
  10. Help school districts receive adequate support from social and mental health agencies.
  11. Participates in the referral of students to other agencies as appropriate.
  12. Identifies and reports child abuse and neglect.
  13. Develop and maintain effective individual and group therapy with students and parents as needed.

There are additional extra curricular opportunities (coaching and sponsorships) available but are not required with this position.

This position could also be combined with a academic support person to create more hours towards a full time job if needed. (Combined Certified/Classified Position)

Our district test scores have always exceeded standards through the hard work of our dedicated staff. The building is carpeted, air conditioned, and maintained extremely well. We have nice sized classrooms, a complete library, full computer lab, and offer all Kansas Board of Regent courses as well as a wide variety of electives.

We have 5 buildings on our campus. We have a K-1st grade modular building, a 2nd - 5th grade building, wood and metal shop, older gymnasium, and the high school buidling which houses grades 6-12 students.

Currently, the vast majority of our sports teams are cooperating with the Cedar Vale school district though we have separate school districts and separate board's of education. Our regular school colors are Red, White, and Black and we are the Fighting Cardinals. Our combined colors are black and gold with the Spartan nickname.
