Position: Maintenance Assistant

 

Purpose: Assesses and conducts maintenance at all District schools and facilities- to include all mechanical- electrical- and plumbing (MEP) systems. Supports the activities of District custodial and MEP contractors. Conducts maintenance on the physical interiors and exteriors of the District facilities and accompanying grounds in order to maintain a standard operating excellence- safety- cleanliness- and aesthetic attractiveness.

 

Reports To: Assistant Director of Transportation & Maintenance

 

FLSA Status: Non-exempt

 

Salary: USD 207 Classified Matrix Column E: $20.00 - $35.37 per hour- commensurate with experience

 

Required Qualifications:                   

  • High school graduate- GED- or equivalent.
  • 2-3 years of experience and/or training in the area of facilities & maintenance.
  • Knowledge in areas such as the maintenance of mechanical (to include heating- ventilation- and air conditioning (HVAC))- electrical- and plumbing systems.
  • Aptitude or competence with basic software systems to include Microsoft Office & Google Suites.
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
  • Ability to pass initial and random tests for alcohol and controlled substances. 
  • Health and Inoculation Certificate on file in the District Office (after an employment offer is made).

Preferred Qualifications:                   

  • Possess a valid Commercial Driver`s License (CDL) with required endorsements- or willingness to get a CDL.
  • Associate`s Degree in a related field.
  • Five to seven years of experience and/or training in the area of facilities and maintenance.

Essential Functions:  To perform this job successfully- an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily:

  • Monitor maintenance programs to meet the requirements for the District’s mechanical (to include HVAC)- electrical- and plumbing systems.
  • Conduct routine maintenance on the District’s maintenance equipment and vehicles.
  • Inspect all schools and facilities with regards to the ongoing custodial contract.
  • Inspect the District’s facilities and grounds on a regular basis for needed repair and maintenance.
  • Provide support to school events requiring additional support.
  • Assist with the District’s summer maintenance and cleaning programs to prepare for the new school year. 
  • Assist with the maintenance of the District’s grounds- to include school grounds- playgrounds- parking lots/driveways- landscaping- and fencing.
  • Assist the Director and Assistant Director of Transportation & Maintenance in determining which repair and maintenance issues are beyond the scope of USD 207 staff and require outside contractors.
  • Assist other personnel in emergencies as called upon.
  • Maintain a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information.
  • Regular and consistent attendance at work.
  • Perform such other related duties as assigned by the Director or Assistant Director of Transportation & Maintenance.

The Fort Leavenworth School District has been a part of the educational system of the State of Kansas since 1901.  Geographically, it is composed entirely of federal property and includes Fort Leavenworth National Cemetery and the U. S. Federal Penitentiary.  The buildings, which belong to the school district, are located on land leased from the federal government.  We are a Kansas Public School System.  We do not have any connection with the Department of Defense Dependent School System.  The district provides instruction for grades K - 9 in addition to half day preschool for 4 year olds meeting current residency requirements.    The post schools operate under the provisions of Kansas State Law, applicable federal laws, and regulations of the U. S. Department of Health, Education and Welfare.

District facilities consist of four schools, and one central administration building.  The district also has a warehouse and transportation center.  All schools in the district have been extensively renovated and all life safety features upgraded.  All schools have at least the following:  auditorium, gymnasium, full service kitchen, cafeteria, technology classrooms, two computer labs, separate art and music rooms and a full service library media center.  All schools are maintained in excellent condition.
