Purpose: The Special Education Resource Teacher provides support and specialized instruction to students with high-incidence disabilities such as learning disabilities mild intellectual disabilities emotional/behavioral disorders and speech/language impairments. The teacher works with students primarily in a resource setting but may also support students in inclusive classrooms. The teacher is responsible for developing and implementing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) that address the unique academic social and behavioral needs of each student while collaborating with general education teachers and other staff to promote student success in the least restrictive environment.

The Fort Leavenworth School District has been a part of the educational system of the State of Kansas since 1901. Geographically, it is composed entirely of federal property and includes Fort Leavenworth National Cemetery and the U. S. Federal Penitentiary. The buildings, which belong to the school district, are located on land leased from the federal government. We are a Kansas Public School System. We do not have any connection with the Department of Defense Dependent School System. The district provides instruction for grades K - 9 in addition to half day preschool for 4 year olds meeting current residency requirements. The post schools operate under the provisions of Kansas State Law, applicable federal laws, and regulations of the U. S. Department of Health, Education and Welfare. Children in the Fort Leavenworth Schools have benefited greatly from the support of a community that places a premium on quality education for its young people.
