Purpose: The Spanish teacher cultivates students’ language proficiency- cultural appreciation- and global awareness and helps students develop the communication skills- cultural insights- and confidence necessary to succeed in an interconnected world.

Reports To: Building Principal 

 

FLSA Status: Exempt

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in education
  • Valid Kansas Teaching License with the appropriate endorsement 
  • Health and Inoculation Certificate on file in the District Office (after an employment offer is made)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in the field of education 
  • Three-plus years of certified teaching experience
  • Excellent communication- organizational- and collaboration skills
  • Ability to foster a positive learning environment

Essential Functions:  To perform this job successfully- an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily:

  • Develop lesson objectives and materials that cater to different learning styles and levels of proficiency
  • Design and implement comprehensive Spanish language lessons aligned with state and/or school standards
  • Incorporate cultural aspects of Spanish-speaking countries to enrich the curriculum and increase student engagement
  • Use a variety of instructional strategies to meet diverse learning needs
  • Integrate reading- writing- speaking- and listening activities to build communicative competence in Spanish
  • Maintain accurate records of student performance and use data to tailor instruction and provide timely feedback
  • Communicate academic progress- achievement- and concerns to students- parents/guardians- and relevant staff
  • Establish and maintain an environment conducive to learning- promoting respect and positive interactions
  • Implement and uphold school policies- procedures- and disciplinary guidelines consistently
  • Work closely with fellow teachers and department staff to share resources- strategies- and best practices
  • Participate in faculty meetings- professional development workshops- and continuing education to stay current in language teaching methods
  • Engage in ongoing reflection and self-assessment to improve instructional effectiveness
  • Participate in school-wide activities such as parent-teacher conferences- open houses- and department events
  • Adhere strictly to professional ethics
  • Prepare completely and adequately to carry out their responsibilities for all students within their classroom
  • Perform the necessary administrative work related to the assignment- including but not limited to completion of all reports required by the District 
  • Attend all staff conferences and individual conferences between teacher and administrator and is available for pupil and parent conferences- including conferences for writing IEPs and staffing for special education
  • Supervise students in and around the school building- including before and after the school day- as assigned by the building principal 
  • React positively to change and frequent interruptions in an educational environment 
  • Ensure that substitute teachers will have adequate direction and lesson plans 
  • Report all cases of suspected child abuse or neglect
  • Keep student information and records confidential
  • Have regular routine attendance at work 
  • Carries out the duties and responsibilities as assigned by the administration

  • Physical ability to lift up to 25 pounds to shoulder height and 50 pounds to waist height

The Fort Leavenworth School District has been a part of the educational system of the State of Kansas since 1901.  Geographically, it is composed entirely of federal property and includes Fort Leavenworth National Cemetery and the U. S. Federal Penitentiary.  The buildings, which belong to the school district, are located on land leased from the federal government.  We are a Kansas Public School System.  We do not have any connection with the Department of Defense Dependent School System.  The district provides instruction for grades K - 9 in addition to half day preschool for 4 year olds meeting current residency requirements.    The post schools operate under the provisions of Kansas State Law, applicable federal laws, and regulations of the U. S. Department of Health, Education and Welfare.

Commitment to quality and success for every student are hallmarks of the school district.  Children in the Fort Leavenworth Schools have benefited greatly from the support of a community that places a premium on quality education for its young people.

District facilities consist of four schools, and one central administration building.  The district also has a warehouse and transportation center.  All schools in the district have been extensively renovated and all life safety features upgraded.  All schools have at least the following:  auditorium, gymnasium, full service kitchen, cafeteria, technology classrooms, two computer labs, separate art and music rooms and a full service library media center.  All schools are maintained in excellent condition.
