Middle School / High School Social Science Teacher

Cedar Vale Schools seeks a passionate and dedicated educator who is eager to collaborate, innovate, and inspire our rural student body, utilizing high impact teaching methods and cultivate a love of life-long learning as we prepare students for future success. The position includes daily plan time and small class sizes. This position is designed to support strong classroom instruction for the social science content in grades 7th-12th. The classroom instructor creates and maintains a positive learning environment to facilitate the personal, social, and intellectual development of all students as well as responding to the individual needs and abilities of all students.  The Classroom Instructor works closely with other staff and the administration of USD 285. 

 

Qualifications: Bachelors degree from an accredited college/university. Valid Kansas Teacher Licenses in certified area and a desire to continue with personal career advancement

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Designs and facilitates a great program that meets the personal, academic, and social and intellectual development of our students.
  2. Establishes a positive learning environment and responds effectively to the diverse needs of all students.
  3. Set high expectations for student achievement and social/emotional standards.
  4. Motivates students through effective communication and evaluative feedback.
  5. Maintain accurate student attendance records, grades, and other required records.
  6. Prepare students for exams or assessments and advancement.
  7. Prepare and deliver lessons/activities to students appropriately.
  8. Prepare course materials such as syllabi, homework assignments, and handouts.
  9. Initiate, facilitate, and moderate classroom discussions
  10. Demonstrate effective classroom organization and classroom management.
  11. Keep abreast of developments in your field by reading current literature, talking with colleagues, and participating in professional conferences.
  12. Serve on academic or administrative committees that deal with institutional policies, departmental matters, and academic issues.
  13. Display students' work in school and appropriately.
  14. Act as adviser to student organizations.
  15. Uphold district policies
  16.  Obtain advance approval of the principal for all activities and expenditures.
  17. Obtain advance approval of the principal for workshops and professional development
  18. Adhere to all district health and safety policies including precautions of Bloodborne Pathogens and Exposure.
  19. Other duties as assigned by the principal, which are consistent with the general, requirements and qualifications of the position.

Benefits Information

Currently the BOE provides a stipend intended to help with personal health care expenses distributed monthly, as well as a designated amount to utilize through American Fidelity insurance options.
