Purpose: The Director of Teaching and Learning promotes the success of all by facilitating the development, articulation, implementation, and stewardship of the district’s vision for learning. They will support and sustain a positive district culture by acting with integrity, fairness, and in an ethical manner. Effective collaboration, communication, creativity, and critical thinking skills are essential. The Director will assist in leading, providing support for, and facilitate district programming and initiatives. To fulfill the responsibilities of the position, they will work closely with administration, staff, and community in order to advance the district’s mission and common good. 

Responsible to: Assistant Superintendent of Teaching, Learning, and Student Services 

Payment rate: As Established by the Emporia Board of Education

General conditions: 12 months, running July 1 to June 30

 

Qualifications:

  1. Master’s degree from an accredited college/university.
  2. Current Kansas State Licensure with endorsement appropriate to the assignment on file in the Central Office. 
  3. Three or more years of successful educational leadership at a building or district level. 
  4. Health and Inoculation Certificate on file in the Central Office. 
  5. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the board may find appropriate and acceptable. 

Essential Functions:  

  1. Provide leadership for the integration of Kansas and district technology standards across the district.
  2. Support and facilitate the development of curriculum, instruction, and assessment with an emphasis on instructional technology integration across the district.
  3. Utilize research-based instructional strategies and programs; emerging practices are recognized, studied, and applied as appropriate. 
  4. Review, evaluate, and recommend instructional resources (technology included) in coordination with the Department of Teaching, Learning and Student Services and the Director of Network Operations when applicable.
  5. Establish and promote partnerships to strengthen programs and support district and building goals. 
  6. Collaborate with members of the technology department and Director of Assessment and Accountability to support smooth operation of and access to electronic programs, new technologies, and other resources; assist in the development of the three-year Technology Plan, ensuring compliance with state requirements (so the district qualifies for e-rate funding). 
  7. Understand and analyze district instructional programs to support district and school improvement efforts. 
  8. Facilitate and support efforts in alignment with the Kansas State Department of Education and district Vision, and 21st Century Learning skills.
  9. Coordinate efforts to further the Career Technical Education vision in the district. 
  10. Consult with and provide support for Assistant Superintendent of Teaching, Learning, and Student Services with organizing, administering, and overseeing federal funds, programming, budgeting, and reporting.
  11. Facilitate and model research-based practices when conducting professional development. 
  12. Promote, sustain, and assist with leading district initiatives, including the teaching and learning framework, school improvement plans, intervention services, special education services, and 504 plans. 
  13. Create, maintain, and update learning resources for staff, including guides, tutorials, and other support materials.  
  14. Initiate, produce, and articulate plans that are in alignment with departmental and district vision and goals.
  15. Communicate and present effectively with members of the school district and community.

  7. Communicate effectively with administrators, staff, parents, and community organizations. 
  8. Interact in a professional manner, demonstrating sensitivity and acceptance of diversity. 
  9. Advise in the selection of instructional resources and materials through processes outlined by the Assistant Superintendent of Student Learning and Services. 
  10. Provide research and support for new and existing instructional technologies that facilitate student learning and improvement efforts. 
  11. Comply with legal and regulatory requirements, as provided by state and federal law, fairly, wisely, and considerately. 
  12. Effectively utilize the expertise of other district professionals to support or provide professional learning that improves staff practices and student achievement.
  13. Develop and maintain documentation relative to requirements.
  14. Uphold and enforce board policy, administrative procedures, and school rules/regulations including but not limited to:
    • Acceptable use of technology
    • Sexual and racial harassment
    • Child abuse reporting
    • Health and safety including all precautions of the Bloodborne Pathogens Exposure Control Plan
  15. Demonstrate professionalism through high expectation for self and work habits, including time management, initiative, punctual attendance, proper grooming and attire, appropriate demeanor, and the use of conflict resolution skills.    
  16. Participate in committee involvement or leadership, as assigned.      
  17. Respect the confidentiality of records and information regarding students, parents, and teachers in accordance with accepted professional ethics, and state and federal laws.
  18. Secure and maintain an inventory of materials and resources appropriate to duties. 
  19. Create and maintain a safe, clean, and well-organized work environment. 
  20. Be prepared to implement the Building Crisis Plan; actively participate in response drills.
  21. Other duties as assigned by the Superintendent and the Assistant Superintendent of Teaching, Learning, and Student Services.

Physical Requirements/Environmental Conditions:

  1. Requires prolonged sitting or standing.
  2. Occasionally requires physical exertion to manually move, lift, carry, pull, or push heavy objects or materials.
  3. Occasionally requires stooping, bending, and reaching.
  4. Must work indoors and outdoors year-round.
  5. Must work in noisy and crowded environments.
  6. Must work in and around dust, fumes and odors. 
  7. Requires ability to multi-task to see multiple projects through to completion.

Salary Information

Base salary of $103,841 with additional compensation for work-related experience and level of education.
