Position Title: School Physical Therapist

Reports To: Director of Special Education / Building Principal
Position Type: Certified / Part-Time / 10 Month Contract

Position Overview:

The School Physical Therapist provides assessment- treatment- and consultation services for students with physical disabilities that impact their ability to access the educational environment. This role focuses on developing students’ functional mobility- posture- strength- coordination- and safety skills- while collaborating with educators- families- and related service providers to support participation in the least restrictive environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assess students’ physical abilities and functional needs in school settings.

  • Develop- implement- and monitor individualized therapy plans in alignment with IEP goals.

  • Provide direct therapy services- both individually and in small groups- to improve mobility- strength- coordination- and independence.

  • Recommend adaptive equipment- orthotics- mobility devices- and modifications to support student access to the classroom.

  • Collaborate with teachers- paraprofessionals- and other related service providers to integrate therapy goals into daily routines and activities.

  • Educate staff and families on strategies to support student physical needs.

  • Document services- progress- and compliance with state and federal regulations.

  • Participate in IEP meetings- team conferences- and professional development.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Master’s degree in Physical Therapy from an accredited program

  • Licensed Physical Therapist in the state of Kansas

  • Knowledge of pediatric physical therapy practices and school-based interventions

  • Strong collaboration- communication- and problem-solving skills

Preferred:

  • Experience in school-based physical therapy

  • Familiarity with adaptive equipment and assistive technology for students

  • Training in pediatric neuromuscular- orthopedic- or developmental disorders

Work Environment:

  • School settings including classrooms- therapy gyms- and playgrounds

  • Regular collaboration with students- staff- and families

  • May involve lifting- positioning- or assisting students with mobility needs
