Purpose:

The principal will lead the administrative team at Pittsburg High School- fostering an inclusive environment for all students. This role involves setting a strategic direction for quality education and maintaining high expectations across all high school programs.

 

Reports To: Superintendent

 

Pay Rate: Compensation is based on education and experience- ranging from $105-000 to $115-000. Competitive benefits package including health- dental- vision- and life insurance. The USD 250 board of education contributes $1-299 monthly towards health insurance. The benefit package also includes KPERS retirement plan and employer sponsored 403 (b) and much more.

 

Term of Employment: 11-month position

 

Qualifications:

 

Required Credentials:

  • Candidates must possess the Building or District Administrator Requirement credentials.

Experience:

  • Prior experience as a high school administrator is mandatory.
  • Experience as a high school principal is preferred.

Functions and Responsibilities:

 

Universal USD 250 Licensed Personnel Standards

  • Support the philosophy and mission of the organization and the value of education.
  • Uphold the privacy rights of students and safeguard confidential information.
  • Communicate effectively and courteously.
  • Ensure all building operations comply with district- state- and federal guidelines.
  • Respond positively and productively to change.
  • Stay informed about new information- innovative ideas- and techniques.

 

Specific Functions and Responsibilities: 

  • Exhibit excellent communication skills in speaking- listening- and writing.
  • Demonstrate high standards of integrity and personal performance.
  • Employ strong decision-making skills with input from multiple stakeholders.
  • Serve as the instructional leader with expertise in curriculum- instruction- and assessment.
  • Analyze data to drive student improvement- support teachers in instructional decisions- and evaluate high school programs.
  • Conduct annual evaluations of classroom teachers and hourly staff as required by policy.
  • Update and maintain the student handbook to ensure consistency.
  • Oversee necessary administrative tasks.
  • Manage the school budget- including funds from the General Fund- Capital Outlay- and Group Fundraisers.
  • Represent the school at relevant conferences and meetings as required.
  • Cultivate relationships with community groups- alumni associations- local businesses- universities- and national organizations.
  • Be visible and approachable at events; initiate conversations and build relationships with students and parents for proactive communication and problem-solving.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the superintendent.

 

Physical Requirements/Environmental Conditions

  • Level 3 – Medium Work:
  • Exert 20-50 pounds of force occasionally; up to 10-25 pounds frequently- and negligible up to 10 pounds constantly.
  • Required physical activities include climbing- bending- stooping- kneeling- twisting- reaching- walking- lifting- and repetitive motions.
  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods.
  • Must be able to travel and work long hours- including overnight events.
  • Ability to work in a noisy environment and adapt to a fast-paced- multifaceted setting.

Unified School District 250 serves the city of Pittsburg, Kansas and the immediate rural area surrounding our community. Over 2,700 students and 500 employees work daily to provide a first-class teaching and learning environment for students pre-kindergarten through the senior year of high school.
