Purpose: The classroom teacher plans and facilitates maximum student learning in assigned studies; leads and instructs each student to meet established outcomes based on student’s capacity to master appropriate curriculum; provides activities designed to create an interest and enthusiasm for personal acquisition of knowledge.

Qualifications:



  1. Baccalaureate degree in Education with appropriate subject/grade level specialties

  2. Licensed by Kansas State Department of Education

  3. Health and inoculation certificate on file in the Central Office (after employment offer is made).  Must maintain current TB testing as required by Health Department regulations.

  4. Ability to lift 50 pounds, bend, stoop, kneel, turn, reach.

  5. Ability to work in frequently noisy and crowded environments with numerous interruptions.


Essential Functions:

  2. Demonstrates knowledge of subject matter and learning styles.  

  3. Demonstrates ability to lead, plan, coordinate, organize a classroom, manage behaviors, make decisions and handle emergencies.

  4. Demonstrates patience, imagination and communication ability.

  5. Demonstrates ability to use technology and regular classroom equipment, including but not limited to computer and multi media.

  7. Utilizes the chosen district curriculums as the primary resources for instruction.

  8. Ability to analyze and make meaning of student data to guide instruction.

  9. Desires personal professional growth, including but not limited to that supplied by the district; professional growth activities evidenced by recorded and concerted efforts to improve classroom management and student achievement.

  10. Meets all district safety requirements.


General Responsibilities:

  1. Designs lessons for groups and individuals based on course/grade level standards. Develops assignments and tasks that are aligned to the standards and engages students in rigorous and engaging learning experiences.

  2. Teaches/facilitates learning and student participation by using various means of instruction; designs multiple methods to present and reinforce curriculum to include all students who process information differently; guides individual and group activities and discussions; uses a variety of diagnostic techniques to assess students’ difficulties; supplies remedies to make success possible.

  3. Frequently and routinely monitors student learning and makes adjustments as necessary, including IEPs, to assure that all students are learning the identified curriculum.

  4. Works with other teachers to develop an effective instructional program.

  5. Promotes study habits incorporating new skills for further reinforcement.

  6. Creates and sustains a learning environment that will enhance learning; maintains control of physical behavior of students to insure individual rights and privileges for learning; ensures the classroom is attractive and conducive to learning.

  7. Completes grading, record keeping and reporting in a timely manner and as required.

  8. Provides social and community (in and out of the classroom) activities and opportunities to display and practice skill development for the purpose of ensuring intellectual, social, emotional, and physical growth so that students will feel a sense of success in their own rate of development.

  9. Encourages and promotes communication and interaction with parents through conferences, including but not limited to electronic media, telephone calls, record keeping, lesson plans, and multiple pupil performance outcomes/assessments.

  10. Networks with other teachers to facilitate positive transitions for students.

  11. Interacts with faculty, principal, and community groups for planning curriculum and activities.

  12. Participates in personal professional growth activities and district in-service programs.

  13. Engages in Professional Learning and Professional Learning Communities (PLC).(Agreed)

  14. Supervises personnel as assigned.

  15. Manages all teaching requirements with mobility to move from place to place with students to demonstrate and teach activities within the building and on the school grounds.

  16. Demonstrates ability to conduct classroom demonstrations to teach concepts.


Other duties:

  1. Ensures the classroom is conducive to learning.

  2. Assists with supervision of students as assigned.

  3. Prepares adequate materials to support classroom activities.

  4. Supervises inventory of all classroom equipment.

  5. Performs other duties, tasks, responsibilities as assigned by administration.
