Overview:

USD 439 is seeking a dynamic and passionate Agriculture Teacher to spearhead the establishment of a new agriculture program within the district. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in developing and implementing a comprehensive agricultural education curriculum, fostering hands-on learning experiences, and engaging students in the exciting world of agriculture.

Responsibilities:

1. Curriculum Development:

Work with the administration to design and develop a robust and relevant agriculture curriculum aligned with state standards and educational goals.

Integrate innovative teaching methods and technologies to enhance student learning experiences.

2. Program Implementation:

Establish and organize the agriculture program, ensuring a structured and effective learning environment.

Coordinate and oversee the setup of any necessary facilities, laboratories, or resources for practical and hands-on activities.

Work closely with the district CTE coordinator to implement high-quality student pathways.

3. Classroom Instruction:

Deliver engaging and informative lessons on various aspects of agriculture, that could include but are not limited to crop science, animal husbandry, agribusiness, and sustainable agriculture practices in the Comprehensive Agricultural CTE Pathway.

Foster critical thinking, problem-solving, and teamwork among students through interactive teaching methods.

4. Practical Experience:

Organize and supervise hands-on experiences such as field trips, labs, and agricultural projects to provide students with real-world applications of theoretical knowledge.

Guide students in participating in extracurricular activities related to agriculture, such as FFA or similar programs.

5. Assessment and Evaluation:

Implement effective assessment strategies to measure student understanding and progress in the agriculture curriculum.

Provide timely and constructive feedback to students, fostering continuous improvement.

6. Community Engagement:

Collaborate with local farmers, businesses, and community organizations to create partnerships that enhance the agriculture program.

Organize events and activities that showcase students` achievements and promote community awareness of the agriculture program.

7. Professional Development:

Stay current on advancements in agricultural education, incorporating new trends and technologies into the curriculum.

Participate in professional development opportunities and collaborate with colleagues to enhance teaching practices.

Qualifications:

Bachelor`s degree in Agriculture Education or a related field (Master`s degree preferred).

Valid Kansas teaching certification in Agriculture Education or the ability to obtain a valid teaching certification.

Experience in curriculum development and program implementation in preferred.

Strong knowledge of current agricultural practices, trends, and technologies.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Ability to motivate and inspire students in the field of agriculture.

Commitment to fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment.

Compensation: 

USD 439 offers a very competitive Salary based on education and experience.  The base salary of USD 439 for the 2023-2024 school year is $49,113 for a Bachelor's Degree and $53,887 for a Masters Degree.  

A $1500 off-schedule payment is paid each year in addition to a teacher`s regular salary pending negotiations ($750 in December / $750 in March) 

An additional supplemental would also be included for FFA.

Salary Information

USD 439 offers a very competitive Salary based on education and experience.  The base salary of USD 439 for the 2024-2025 school year is $47,567 for a Bachelor s Degree and $52,191 for a Master’s Degree. 

Employer Information

Sedgwick Public Schools, USD 439, is a pre-kindergarten through the twelfth-grade state-accredited school system. The student population is 525 annually. The school is housed on one campus with two interconnected buildings that include an elementary and a high school.  USD 439 is in the middle of construction that will connect the two buildings through the addition of a new media center, a new gymnasium, and multiple classroom and office spaces.   

The junior high and high school are members of the Heart of America League which supports and promotes academic and athletic programs for the ten-member school districts. Sedgwick is located in the southern part of Harvey County, just 15 minutes north of Wichita.  We are within a short drive of multiple attractions in the Wichita area.  Come be a part of a small-town district with big-city amenities within a short drive!
