Job Title: Music Teacher

Job Description: Sedgwick Public Schools, USD 439, is seeking a highly motivated and talented individual to join our music department. The ideal candidate will have a passion for Music Education and a commitment to inspiring students to reach their full potential. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching and directing a music program across the district and will be expected to work collaboratively with colleagues in the music department.

Responsibilities:

  1. Plan and implement a comprehensive music program for students in grades PK-12
  2. Develop and implement lessons that meet the needs of all students and align with school and district standards
  3. Rehearse and lead performances, including concerts, festivals, and competitions
  4. Foster a positive and supportive learning environment that encourages creativity, collaboration, and growth
  5. Collaborate with other music teachers to develop a comprehensive music curriculum
  6. Communicate effectively with students, parents, and staff
  7. Maintain accurate records of student progress and provide regular feedback to students, parents, and school administration.
  8. Participate in professional development activities to stay current with best practices in music education
  9. Ensure  all musical activities are in compliance with school policies and state regulations
  10. Stay current with industry trends and best practices in music education through professional development opportunities and collaboration with other music teachers
  11. Attend school events, concerts, and other extracurricular activities as required

Qualifications: 

Bachelor's degree in Music Education or a related field

Kansas teaching certification in Music Education

Demonstrated success in teaching music at the across grade levels is preferred

Knowledge of musical theory, history, and performance techniques

Strong organizational and communication skills

Ability to work collaboratively with families, colleagues, and support staff

Compensation: USD 439 offers a very competitive salary based on education and experience.  The base salary of USD 439 for the 2024-2025 school year is $49,113 for a Bachelor's Degree and $53,887 for a Masters Degree.

Employer Information

Sedgwick Public Schools, USD 439, is a pre-kindergarten through the twelfth-grade state-accredited school system. The student population is 525 annually. The school is housed on one campus with two interconnected buildings that include an elementary and a high school.  USD 439 is in the middle of construction that will connect the two buildings through the addition of a new media center, a new gymnasium, and multiple classroom and office spaces.   

The junior high and high school are members of the Heart of America League which supports and promotes academic and athletic programs for the ten-member school districts. Sedgwick is located in the southern part of Harvey County, just 15 minutes north of Wichita.  We are within a short drive of multiple attractions in the Wichita area.  Come be a part of a small-town district with big-city amenities within a short drive!
