Job Summary/Description:

Under the Direction of the Superintendent, the Director of Special Programs is responsible for implementing and maintaining special programs and services in conformance to district, state, and federal objectives and laws; planning, designing, and implementing all phases of service provided by the Special Education staff; serving as a resource to patrons, school personnel, and the Board; and maintaining adequate staffing to ensure objectives of programs and services are achieved within budget.


 

Required Qualifications:

Knowledge of special education practices and procedures.  Requires the ability to use standard office equipment including computer and peripherals and other instructional equipment.  Ability to work effectively with district personnel, administrators, school staff, students, parents and the general public.  Ability to communicate effectively.  Ability to learn enrollment, transfer, program record keeping systems and reporting requirements.


 

Duties/Responsibilities:

  1. Oversee special programs including Special Education, ESL, 504 programs, and Pre-K
  2. Manage special program staff
  3. Para facilitator
  4. Collaborate with building administration to develop and implement strategies to handle various student challenges
  5. Complete reports specific to special programs


 

Education and Experience:

  1. Masters Degree Required
  2. District Licensure Preferred
     

Physical Requirements: 

  1. Must regularly lift/move objects up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift/move objects up to 25 pounds..
  2. Will be required to regularly stand, sit and walk for extended periods

 

Work Environment:

The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, some climbing and balancing, some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling and significant fine finger dexterity.  This job is performed in a generally clean and healthy environment.
