Provide personal and career counseling services to all high school students and assist with district-wide assessment programs.

  1. Meet with individual students, as needed, including personal counseling.
  2. Consult with parents regarding student/parent problems.
  3. Help with enrollment for high school students.
  4. Assist with the development of the master schedule.
  5. Monitor grades of all students failing one or more subjects.
  6. Work with building administration. 
  7. Assist the administration in monitoring student transcripts, schedules, and credits so all students are working toward high school graduation.
  8. Maintain cumulative records and action plans for each student.
  9. Cultivate positive relationships with students by attending student activities.
  10. Ensure that all students graduate from Horton High School college and career ready.
  11. Assist students with establishing a four-year college—and career-ready action plan when they enroll and review those action plans annually.
  12. Provide career information to all students on an individual basis.
  13. Report important information about national test dates, post-secondary information, scholarships, and financial aid to students.
  14. Work with Highland Community College and Highland Vo-tech to provide expanded concurrent classes for students.

Our district is made up of approx. 540 students who attend Horton Elementary (pre-school through 4th grade), Everest Middle School (5th-8th) and Horton High School (9th-12th).  Our teachers work hard to provide an education in a safe and positive environment.
