Building Administrator Elementary Assistant Principal

 

Primary Purpose

The assistant principal is directly responsible to the building principal for the general administration, supervision of staff and students, and curriculum programs in the building. 

 

Qualifications Profile

         MS Degree

         Qualified KSDE Building Leadership License

         Previous administrative experience is preferred but not required

         TB Skin Test/Physical completed and on file

         Ability to pass a background check

         Valid drivers license or state issued ID

 

Essential Job Functions

  • Use of leadership, supervisory, and administrative skills, to manage assigned school so as to promote the educational development of each student
  • Provides supervisory leadership for teachers and other employees, evaluates the efficiency of their services and reports such evaluations as necessary.
  • Allocate resources to meet the educational needs of the teaching and building staff.
  • Complete and maintain necessary personnel and budget reports.
  • Accepts a commitment to the success of each student in the building.
  • Monitors student discipline by implementing policies in the student handbook.
  • Advises the building principal on matters related to school organization to the end that all educational needs of students can be met within a racially integrated/balanced environment, and monitors all curricular and extra-curricular offerings in the school to ensure full opportunity for participation of all students regardless of their racial, economic or gender status.
  • Implements Board policies and administrative rules and regulations relating to the school.
  • Attends recruiting trips.
  • Establishes an effective, positive learning climate in the school.
  • Establishes and communicates frequently, high expectations for students and staff.
  • Models expectations for students and staff.
  • Establishes a team concept in developing, designing and initiating programs to meet needs of the school.
  • Organizes and administers the school with priority given to tasks that directly impact improvement of instruction.
  • Establishes an administrative structure that maximizes instruction and minimizes disruptions to instruction.
  • Evaluates and supervises all teachers and develops growth plans based on the evaluation process with teacher input.
  • Develops plans, programs, and systems to enhance students' success in the building.
  • Creates a school climate of change and innovation to best meet students' educational needs; and encourages staff members in their efforts to implement change and innovations in the school.
  • Actively involves students and parents in the student's education.
  • Delivers to the community a positive, ongoing public relations program.
  • Develops and fosters an open and honest communication system.
  • Encourages and supports the mission of the district.
  • Organizes and prepares short- and long-term goals for the building, soliciting input from students, teachers, support personnel, community, and parents.
  • Conducts meetings of the staff as necessary for the proper functioning of the school.
  • Assumes responsibility for all official school correspondence and news releases.
  • Engages in actively advocating, promoting, and securing the rights of all persons within the school.
  • Advises the district office on activities in the school and supervises the submission of required reports.
  • Reports to appropriate central office administrative personnel regarding the needs of the school with respect to personnel, equipment, supplies, and curriculum.
  • Assumes responsibility for the validity, adequacy and safekeeping of all records that may be required by law or local policy.
  • Assists in the recruitment, selection, retention, promotion and assignment of all personnel under his/her direction.
  • Assumes responsibility for the general quality of instruction in the assigned school.
  • Assumes responsibility for the attendance, conduct, and health of students.
  • Plans, organizes, and directs implementation and completion of all school activities and athletic programs.
  • Assumes responsibility for the safety and administration of the school plant.
  • Keeps abreast of changes and developments in the profession by attending professional meetings, reading professional journals and other publications, and discussing problems of mutual interest with others in the field.
  • Exercises decisive leadership in crisis situations.
  • Works cooperatively with the building principal in the development and follow-through of own Professional Growth Plans.
  • Serves on the district's Administrative Council.
  • Delegates authority and tasks as deemed appropriate.
  • Performs any and all other duties as directed by the Superintendent of Schools.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Working knowledge of computer software used in the district.
  • Working knowledge of basic educational functions and terminology.
  • Ability to deal tactfully with the staff and public.
  • Oversee, direct, and be familiar with current Human Resource policies.
  • Ability to supervise and evaluate assigned staff.
  • Working knowledge of Human Resource laws and policies.
  • Ability to obtain essential resources necessary to perform job tasks.
  • Present a professional and positive image of USD 445.
  • Effectively maintain confidentiality in all areas of job functions.
  • Ability to work under pressure.

 

Physical Requirement/Mental Demands/Environmental Conditions

         Requires the ability to maintain emotional control while under stress and in stressful situations.

         Requires the ability to frequently stand for prolonged periods of time.

         Requires the ability to walk frequently.

         Requires the ability to use standard office equipment including computer and peripherals and other instructional equipment for prolonged periods of time.

         Requires the ability to frequently use repetitive hand motions, including frequent keyboarding and mouse use.

         Requires the ability to frequently kneel/squat, bend/stoop, push/pull, twist, or reach.

         Requires the ability to frequently lift and carry items 50 lbs.

         Requires the ability to work and concentrate in noisy and crowded environments.

         Requires the ability to work with frequent interruptions.

         Requires the ability to occasionally work outside with exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures.

         Requires timeliness and regular attendance and/or physical presence at the job.

         Works in standard office and school building environments.

 

Equipment

Uses standard school equipment such as personal computers, printer, copy and fax machines, and telephone.

 

Travel Requirements

Travels to other district buildings and communities/districts for professional meetings, conferences or events as required.

Benefits Information

District pays the employer rates for a dependent or single plan in the Kansas State Employee Health Plan.  There are five (5) different medical plans to choose from and two different providers.  Medical, dental and vision plans are all available.  District also pays for a $25,000 life insurance policy as part of the benefit package.  Ten (10) sick leave days and three (3) personal days are available each year.  Professional Development opportunities are numerous and available for both growth and movement on the salary schedule.

Salary Information

215 day contract starting August 1st.  Salary is dependent on experience and education.  Starting salary $74,000

SCHOOLS

Coffeyville Unified School District #445 has a diverse student population comprised of six attendance centers:

  • Field Kindley High School is a 9-12 center with approximately 500 students.
  • Roosevelt Middle School is a 7-8 center with approximately 250 students.
  • Community Elementary is a K-6 center with about 900 students.
  • Dr. Jerry Hamm Early Childhood Learning Center is our birth to four- year old center.

INSTRUCTION

USD 445 employs six instructional coaches district wide to assist teachers in everything from Literacy First strategies, technology integration, and in the latest in teaching and learning strategies.

TECHNOLOGY

Coffeyville USD 445 operates a large technology budget and incorporates the latest technology in the classroom, including eno boards, projectors in every room, IP phone system, and four computer labs. All teachers are issued  a laptop for use in their classrooms. Laptops are 1:1 for all middle school and high school students.
