Primary Purpose

Under the general supervision of administration, to provide students, parents, administrators and other teaching staff with information on career and or educational opportunities, administer and interpret career assessment tools and assist students in developing educational and occupational goals and plans.

 

Qualifications Profile

         KSDE License in School Counseling

         TB Skin Test/Physical completed and on file

         Ability to pass a background check

         Valid drivers license or state issued ID

 

Essential Job Functions

  • Assists students and parents in interpreting standardized test scores, developing education and occupation plans
  • Assists students with making course and subject selections, as well as evaluating career interests and choices
  • Assists with the scheduling of classes.
  • Obtains and disseminates information regarding occupational opportunities to students and to classes studying occupations
  • Assists students with admissions, scholarship and identifying future academic and occupational opportunities
  • Assists with registration and orientation for new students
  • Assists with the school districts dropout prevention efforts
  • Serves as a ready resource to students to provide counseling that will lead each individual to increased personal growth, self-understanding and maturity
  • Organizes and maintains a system for accurate and complete record-keeping of prospective colleges and employment
  • Encourages parental involvement in students education and ensure effective communication with students and parents
  • Coordinates scholarship and financial aid opportunities to students and parents
  • Assists with freshman transitioning
  • Prepares and delivers seminars to students at each grade level about study skills, success skills, career, college  and financial aid
  • Administers and maintains Kansas Career Pipeline to grades 7 thru 12, reviewing results with students and parents
  • Coordinates with outside agencies to bring opportunities to students
  • Coordinates student enrollment with local community college
  • Assists with Alternative programs
  • Provides Character Education lessons as requested
  • Provides crisis interventions to individuals or small groups
  • Assists School Social Workers
  • Coordinates Homebound program
  • Coordinates school SIT team
  • Other related duties as assigned by administration

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Planning and coordinating field trips to institutions of higher learning, businesses and other organizations related to guidance responsibilities
  • Maintain professional relationship with members of institutions of higher and the business community
  • Maintain cumulative records, transfer grades and oversees Registrar position
  • Ability and knowledge to serves as building testing coordinator:  AP exams,  MAPPS, State Assessments, C-Pass, ASVAB, PSAT, PLAN, EXPLORE, WorkKeys, ACT, AIMSweb, and other assessments as necessary
  • Knowldege to host annual Financial Aid program for parents and students
  • Ability to host annual College and Career Fair
  • Ability to host annual Interview Skills day with the Chamber of Commerce

         Knowledge of pre/post high school program eligibility & NCAA requirements

         Knowledge of college/university admissions processes, scholarship programs and other educational opportunities.

         Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis

         Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students

         Ability to use computer network system and software applications as needed

         Ability to organize and coordinate work

         Ability to communicate effective with students and parents

         Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth

         Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work.

         Knowledge of Career & Technical Education

         Requires the ability to maintain emotional control while under stress and in stressful situations.

         Requires the ability to frequently stand for prolonged periods of time.

         Requires the ability to walk frequently.

         Requires the ability to frequently use repetitive hand motions, including frequent keyboarding and mouse use.

         Requires the ability to frequently lift and carry items 25 lbs.

         Requires the ability to work and concentrate in noisy and crowded environments.

         Requires the ability to work with frequent interruptions.

         Requires timeliness and regular attendance and/or physical presence at the job.

         Works in standard office and school building environments.

 

Equipment

Uses standard school equipment such as personal computers, printer, copy and fax machines, and telephone.

 

Travel Requirements

Travels to other district buildings and communities/districts for professional meetings as required.

Benefits Information

District pays the employer rates for a dependent or single plan in the Kansas State Employee Health Plan.  There are five (5) different medical plans to choose from and two different providers.  Medical, dental and vision plans are all available.  District also pays for a $25,000 life insurance policy as part of the benefit package.  Ten (10) sick leave days and three (3) personal days are available each year.  Professional Development opportunities are numerous and available for both growth and movement on the salary schedule.

Salary Information

Placement on the USD 445 negotiated salary schedule based on experience and education level.  Starting pay for new teacher on the salary schedule is currently $45,900.  Experience, college credits and professional development points (from USD 445) are utilized in column movement on the salary schedule.  Contracted days total 202.  Pay indicated above is based on 182 contracted days.

This does not include any possible supplemental pay that might be considered.  If you are interested in supplemental positions, the salary would be in addition to what is your base salary amount.

SCHOOLS

Coffeyville Unified School District #445 has a diverse student population comprised of six attendance centers:

  • Field Kindley High School is a 9-12 center with approximately 500 students.
  • Roosevelt Middle School is a 7-8 center with approximately 250 students.
  • Community Elementary is a K-6 center with about 900 students.
  • Dr. Jerry Hamm Early Childhood Learning Center is our birth to four- year old center.

INSTRUCTION

USD 445 employs six instructional coaches district wide to assist teachers in everything from Literacy First strategies, technology integration, and in the latest in teaching and learning strategies.

TECHNOLOGY

Coffeyville USD 445 operates a large technology budget and incorporates the latest technology in the classroom, including eno boards, projectors in every room, IP phone system, and four computer labs. All teachers are issued  a laptop for use in their classrooms. Laptops are 1:1 for all middle school and high school students.
