Qualifications:

Current and Kansas school psychologist license or eligibility for the license.

Reports to: Principal/ Department Supervisor

Job Goal:

As noted in Kansas State Regulation, K.A.R. 91-40-1, School Psychological services include the provision of any of the following services: 

  • Administering psychological and educational tests, and other assessment procedures;
  • Interpreting assessment results;
  • Obtaining, integrating, and interpreting information about child behavior and conditions relating to learning;
  • Consulting with other staff members in planning school programs to meet the special needs of children as indicated by psychological tests;
  • Planning and managing a program of psychological services, including psychological counseling for children and parents; and
  • Assisting in developing position behavioral intervention strategies.

Job Responsibilities:

The school psychologist works with school teams and parents in a problem- solving model on issues related to student needs and school environments.

The school psychologist functions as a resource to buildings and district-teams, students and families in the areas of: academic, behavioral, social, emotional and psychological needs and interventions; information and data collection and interpretation; developmental aspects of student functioning; childhood disabilities and how they impact student functioning; and special education law and procedures.

The school psychologist functions as an evaluator of student skills, abilities and functioning within the context of the environment, and in response to interventions. The following areas may be included in the evaluation provided by the school psychologist:

  •   data gathering that provides a basis for academic interventions
  •   evaluate effectiveness of academic and behavior programs and interventions
  •   current cognitive and academic skills
  •   behavioral assessment and positive behavior support
  •   social, emotional, and psychological functioning
  •   effectiveness of classroom, building, or district-wide interventions.

Mental Health Provider: The school psychologist functions as an integral member of a team of professionals who support the mental health needs and help create a psychologically healthy environment for all students.

Essential Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to possess and maintain licensure as a school psychologist in the state of Kansas.
  • Ability to speak clearly to various groups expressing ideas in a logical and forthright manner.
  • Possess composition skills suitable for producing written communication for a variety of readers.
  • Ability to quickly analyze a situation and provide prompt advice.
  • Ability to respond to information requests in a courteous, timely and helpful manner.
  • Ability to perform job responsibilities using appropriate software on district computer system and communication equipment.
  • Ability to work constructively and cooperatively with others. ability to travel upon request or as needed.

Salary Information

Salary Range:  $43,983.00 - $79,033.00 per year
