  2. "Highly qualified" status according to KSDE and federal regulations

Job Summary:  Improve Student Performance

Assesses skills and needs (both initially and ongoing) of students within an elementary, middle, and high school setting for the purpose of determining the kinds of intervention and strategies needed to bring about student achievement and gains in reading and mathematics in a classroom setting.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Designs and implements academic interventions using evidence based strategies in reading and math.
  2. Communicates with school personnel and parents of children regarding reading and/or math level and rate of progress.
  3. Differentiates instruction based on assessment data.
  4. Documents interventions and progress of each child supported.
  5. Works with the classroom teachers to guide and monitor the progress of each child.
  6. Participates in team reviews concerning academic progress for identification of students who are in need of intervention.
  7. Provides small group and individual intervention instruction within the classroom setting.
  8. Provides an atmosphere and environment conducive to the intellectual, physical, and social and emotional development of each student to ensure success.
  9. Communicates and interacts with students, parents, staff and community.
  10. Maintains appropriate records by recording growth and progress monitoring.
  11. Administers informal and formal assessments.
  12. Maintains appropriate records and follows required procedures and practices.
  13. Works cooperatively with the administration and staff to schedule services and meetings.
  14. Knowledge of educational research, trends, and best practices.
  15. Actively participates in staff and professional learning communities meetings.

Critical Skills:

  1. Ability to speak clearly and audibly to various groups expressing ideas in a logical and forthright manner
  2. Possess composition skills suitable for producing written communication for a variety of readers
  3. Ability to quickly analyze a situation and provide prompt advice
  4. Ability to respond to information requests in a courteous, timely and helpful manner
  5. Ability to perform job responsibilities using appropriate software on a district computer system and communication equipment
  6. Ability to manage job responsibilities while meeting established deadlines
  7. Ability to work constructively and cooperatively with others
  8. Possess a high level of interpersonal skills and relationship building with adults and students
