Title:           Reading Specialist/Interventionist

Reports to: Building Principal

Purpose:   

To provide high-quality, evidence-based structured literacy instruction to students with reading challenges and to support the implementation of a multi-tiered system of supports for reading

Qualifications, Skills, and Knowledge:

Licensed educator with a minimum of three years of teaching experience; reading specialist endorsement preferred

Familiar with Kansas dyslexia recommendations and initiatives

LETRS training preferred

Experience with Kansas Multi-Tier System of Supports for Reading (MTSS) preferred

Effective communication skills

Strong time management skills

Able to exhibit flexibility and respond to changing needs/priorities in a professional manner 


 

Performance Responsibilities:

Ensure required universal reading screeners, diagnostics, and progress monitoring assessments are administered in a timely manner

Facilitate data analysis meetings with classroom and special education teachers on a regular basis, and use Kansas MTSS Reading processes for grouping students for intervention instruction

Provide reading intervention instruction to small groups of students using provided high-quality instructional materials with fidelity 

Support teachers who provide reading intervention instruction by identifying appropriate resources, providing training, and extending ongoing support

Guide and support the implementation of structured literacy practices across the school in all disciplines to strengthen core tier 1 instruction, including the use of building-wide reading strategies

Collaborate with building leadership to determine professional learning needs in the area of reading and literacy, including dyslexia

Design and facilitate professional learning related to reading, literacy, and dyslexia

Participate in ongoing professional learning and collaboration related to structured literacy and dyslexia

Other duties as assigned.

 

Physical Requirements/Environmental Conditions:

 

Requires the ability to sit and/or stand for prolonged periods.

Occasionally requires the ability to manually move, lift, carry, pull or push heavy objects or materials.

Occasionally requires the ability to stoop, bend and/or reach.

Must be able to work in noisy and crowded environments.

Requires regular attendance and/or physical presence at the job.

Salary Information

Per negotiated agreement. Experience credit limited to 8 years with a bachelor`s degree or 12 years with a master`s degree.
