Purpose:

To support the attainment of Andover Public Schools District Goals and Portrait of a Graduate through professional learning, instructional coaching, and customized support for educators.

Qualifications, Knowledge, and Skills:

  • Licensed educator with a minimum of five years of classroom teaching experience; master's degree preferred
  • Teacher leadership experience, such as serving on the building leadership team and/or district committees
  • Experience as a formal mentor of new educators is preferred
  • Experience and success with designing/facilitating professional learning for adults
  • Familiar with instructional coaching models and techniques; instructional coaching experience is preferred
  • Familiar with Kansas Education Systems Accreditation (school improvement) processes and experience with the four fundamentals:
    • Structured Literacy: Experience with Kansas MTSS Reading and structured literacy; LETRS training and MTSS Reading Leadership Team member preferred
    • High-Quality Instruction: Knowledge and application of evidence-based instructional strategies and related research; familiar with the Andover Instructional Framework; committed to the use of high-quality instructional materials
    • Standards Alignment: Knowledge of the Kansas state standards for Early Learning - 5th grade; experience with the district's scope and sequence documents; comfortable supporting educators in all content areas
    • Balanced Assessment System: Experience with analyzing and using a variety of data, including FastBridge screener data, to inform instructional decisions at the classroom, building, and system levels; experience with facilitating data meetings preferred
  • Capable of supporting teachers and administrators in the areas of social-emotional learning and behavior management
  • Ability to integrate technology and support teacher use of district platforms/equipment
  • Effective communication skills
  • Exhibit initiative, and manage competing priorities with minimal supervision
  • Conduct independent research, and participate in ongoing professional learning to support educator and district needs
  • Able to exhibit flexibility and respond to changing needs/priorities in a professional manner 

Supervisor(s): Director of Curriculum and Instruction, Academic Affairs; assigned building principals

Contract: This is a teacher-contract position that begins in August and may include addendum days.

Performance Responsibilities:

Work in a collaborative environment with instructional coaches, building principals, and district administrators to 

  • design and facilitate professional learning and customized support to achieve district goals and implement district initiatives, including but not limited to MTSS Reading, MTSS Student Success Skills, structured literacy, the Andover Instructional Framework, and balanced assessment.
  • assist with establishing systems and structures for effective professional learning, including measuring impact.
  • support the use of evidence-based instructional strategies through modeling, co-teaching, and collaborative planning.
  • strengthen standards-based instruction and teacher collective efficacy through the development and implementation of collaborative inquiry cycles.
  • contribute to the development and retention of first and second year teachers through instructional coaching cycles, feedback, and guided reflection.
  • support the selection process and implementation of high-quality instructional materials.
  • support the use of instructional technology tools and platforms to improve student learning.
  • facilitate the analysis of student, educator and system data; use data for improvement.
  • provide customized support to schools as they research, plan and implement system changes.
  • foster teacher leadership development.
  • perform other duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements/Environmental Conditions:

  1. Requires the ability to sit and/or stand for prolonged periods.
  2. Occasionally requires the ability to manually move, lift, carry, pull or push heavy objects or materials.
  3. Occasionally requires the ability to stoop, bend and/or reach.
  4. Must be able to work indoors and outdoors year-round.
  5. Must be able to work in noisy and crowded environments.
  6. Requires regular attendance and/or physical presence at the job.
