QUALIFICATIONS: 

1.  Ability to communicate effectively and gain the confidence of administrators, parents, students, and teachers individually and in groups. 

2.  Possesses skills needed to plan and conduct meetings, in-services, and workshops.

3.  Ability to maintain complete confidentiality and professional descretion.

4.  Initiative that will lead to continued program improvement and development.  

5.  Must have and maintain a dependable means of transportation.

CERTIFICATE/LICENSE REQUIREMENTS: 

1.  Minimum of at a Kansas School Administrator or Director, Supervisor or Coordinator of Special Education License. 

2.  Must have, or be able to obtain, and maintain a valid Kansas driver's license.

JOB GOAL: 

To assist the Director of Special Education substantially and effectively in the task of providing leadership in developing, achieving, and maintaining appropriate educational programs and services. 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: 

1.  Promotes positive action toward the realization of NKESC and/or district objectives through efficient procedures, programs, and the establishment of staff, student, and community communities. 

2.  Fosters good interpersonal relations among NKESC and district staff. 

3.  Maintains an awareness of factors outside NKESC which affect the school program for children. 

4.  Keeps abreast of trends, developments, and research as they pertain to special education and service center operation. 

5.  Observes the day to day management of NKESC, board policies and administrative regulations, budget limitations, and employee and other contacts.

6.  Maintains close contact with all intererested parties, including students, school staff, parents, and the community. 

7.  Exercises decisive leadership to crisis situations. 

8.  Assists as directed with data gathering for budget and program purposes. 

9.  Assists as directed with supervision and evaluation of certified and classified Special Education staff. 

10.  Attends board meetings as directed and participates when appropriate. 

11.  Assists with developing reports for NKESC officials, State, and Federal governments as necessary and as directed. 

12.  Counsels as directed with member districts' administrators, staff, and patrons relative to Special Education issues.

13.  Represents and models NKESC before professional and community groups. 

14.  Keeps the Director of Special Education abreast of activities and issues related to NKESC Special Education. 

15.  Other duties as assigned or directed. 

PHYSICAL ABILITIES: 

1.  Exhibit manual dexterity to dial a telephone, to enter data into a computer, to see and read a computer screen and printed materials with or without vision aids; hear and understand speech at normal classroom levels, outdoors and on the telephone; speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly in normal classrooms, outdoors and on the telephone; and physical agility to reach overhead. 

2.  Ability to move between schools, school buildings, and multiple rooms. 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 

220 to 245 days. 

Salary and work year to be established by the Board of Directors. 

JOB EVALUATION: 

The performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provision of the Board's policy on evaluation of Administrative Personnel.
