Jefferson County North, Unified School District #339, is located in the northeast corner of Jefferson County. USD 339 is within easy driving distance and centrally located between Topeka, Lawrence, Leavenworth, Atchison, and Kansas City. The district encompasses 114 square miles. The majority of this land is in Jefferson County, with very small sections extending into Atchison and Leavenworth counties. This area includes the two towns of Nortonville and Winchester. Within the 2-A school district approximately 450 students attend school Grades PreK-12. There are two classes of each grade which constitutes an average class size of about 20 students. USD #339 employs 73 people, 3 administrators, 40 certified staff members and 30 classified. The district has two impressive and well-maintained attendance centers including a new elementary middle school (K-8) facility built in 1997, located in Nortonville, and a high school (9-12) facility built in 1980 and remodeled in 2014, located in Winchester. The other main building in the district serves as the district office and technology center which is also located in Winchester. Jefferson County North has a very strong tradition of making technology available to the students. Often, when we think of technology, we only consider computers. Our teachers and students are encouraged to integrate into their experiences a variety of technologies. The district purchased iPads for teachers and students use. Students at Jefferson County North have a wide range of opportunities available to them and, with continued Administrative support and the long-range vision of the District Technology Team, they will continue to receive a first class education.
