Speech Language Pathologist

 

Purpose Statement

 

The job of Speech Language Pathologist is done for the purpose/s of working directly with children having exceptional education needs in the area of speech and/or language.  The Speech Language Pathologist serves as coordinator, consultant, case manager, or member of the IEP evaluation team.

 

Essential Functions

  • Works with students to increase age-appropriate articulation, language, social communication, fluency, and voice remediation services to children within the district who exhibit a delay or disorder in any of those areas.
  • Aids in development of appropriate communication, comprehension, and academic skills for school, social, or vocational use. Develops therapy materials to target student needs and carryover of skills.
  • Evaluates students for eligibility into the speech/language program.
  • Completes consultation with general and special education teachers, principals, counselors, and parents regarding student needs.
  • Completes paperwork such as referral forms, eligibility paperwork, IEPs, and progress reports; invoices Medicaid for reimbursement for services provided.
  • Monitors the progress of assigned students therapy data.
 

 

Experience:      One or more years professional experience outside of graduate degree. Experience in an educational setting preferred.

 

Education:       Masters degree in Speech Language Pathology, Communication Sciences and Disorders, Speech and Language Correction or related field.
