West Franklin Unified School District 287 is comprised of two elementary schools, a middle school and a high school.
The two elementary schools serve Pre-K through grade 5; Appanoose Elementary is located in a rural location 7 miles north of Pomona, while Williamsburg Elementary is located within Williamsburg city limits. West Franklin Middle School, serving grades 6-8 and West Franklin High School, which houses grades 9-12 are on the same campus and both are situated in the town of Pomona. West Franklin Learning Center serves students in grades 6-12 who function better in a non-traditional setting and is located on the campus of Williamsburg Elementary.
The primary goal of the West Franklin School District is to successfully educate all students to the highest level in a safe and respectful environment. Technology is a high priority and is integrated into all subjects. A strong emphasis is placed on reading and math skills in grades Pre-K through 5. Middle School offers strong academic core courses with a wide variety of exploratory experiences as well as opportunities to participate in a variety of inter-scholastic sports and extra-curricular activities. West Franklin High School offers 90 different courses as well as 28 extra-curricular activities, including 14 non-athletic organizations. WFHS partners with Neosho County Community College to provide dual courses awarded toward both high school and college transcripts.
