Reports to:  Assistant Superintendent

 

Purpose:  Provide job-embedded professional development for teachers to support and sustain effective teaching and learning through the integration of technology- resulting in improved student learning. The Learning Loss Instructional Coach will assist teachers and participate directly in small group instruction to advance teacher’s/student’s literacy skills- provide feedback- and support.

 

Qualifications: 

  • Possess a current Kansas Teaching License at time of appointment
  • Completed a minimum of three years of successful teaching experience
  • Demonstrated success as a classroom teacher
  • Extensive knowledge of the Common Core State Standards-  assessment- instruction- classroom management- instructional resources- and use of embedded technology
  • Interpersonal- problem solving- and organizational skills necessary to effectively facilitate professional development

 

Physical and Emotional Requirements:  Speaking- hearing- visual- reading- writing- word processing- mobility- consistency of temperament- ability to problem solve and work in stress providing environments.

 

Performance Responsibilities: 

 

  • Classroom Observation with Feedback – The Learning Loss Instructional Coach observes/supports a teacher’s lesson and integration of technology that supports literacy- with time provided during a scheduled post conference to provide feedback and engage in a learning-focused dialogue (preconference is optional- depending on goal).

 

  • Direct Small Group Instruction – The Learning Loss Instructional Coach will directly participate in small group instruction to support literacy through the integration of technology during Guided Reading and/or Literacy Workstations.

 

  • Data Collection – The Learning Loss Instructional Coach will be responsible for data collection and will analyze small group instruction as well as the integration of technology within classes (e.g.- the impact of technology and learning).

 

  • Collaborative Problem Solving – The Learning Loss Instructional Coach meets with individual or groups of teachers (could include administrators) to plan instruction and/or solve specific instructional and assessment issues or problems (e.g.- integration of technology- grouping of students- parent communication- appropriate use of performance assessments- data collection).

 

  • Analyze Students’ Work – The Learning Loss Instructional Coach facilitates the analysis of students’ work with individuals or groups of teachers on the effectiveness of technology and it’s impact on teaching and learning.

 

  • Model a Lesson – The Learning Loss Instructional Coach models a lesson or partial lesson for one or more teachers- with time provided after the lesson to engage in a learning-focused dialogue.

 

  • Coplan or Coteach a Lesson – A teacher and Learning Loss Instructional Coach plan and/or teach a lesson together- with time provided after the lesson to engage in a learning-focused dialogue.

 

  • Professional Development – The Learning Loss Instructional Coach provides varied forms of professional development (e.g.- mini-lesson- series of training sessions) to a small or large group of teacher and/or administrators- based on a defined need.

 

Terms of Employment: 9 months; salary and work year to be determined by the Board of Education.

 

Evaluation: Performance of this position will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the board policy on evaluation of (administrators- professional staff- classified employees).
