Position Title: Spanish Teacher (grades 9-12)
Salary Range: Full Time Teacher Contract as per the Negotiated Agreement available online at
Contract Length: Initial contract shall be for the 2023-24 school year.
Position Summary: The professional Spanish language instructor is a highly qualified educator endorsed in the assigned teaching area with unique qualifications and skills to create a program of study favorable to the learning and personal growth of all students. This position requires the individual to be capable of establishing effective rapport with students so as to effectively motivate students to develop skills- attitudes and knowledge in order to more effectively communicate within the Spanish language. This position requires one who will act in the best interest of every child to establish good relationships with parents and other staff members that can impact the quality of the educational experience of all students.

Job Description:
The Spanish teacher will demonstrate effective planning including the use of the curriculum- appropriate instructional objectives- and utilizing effective teaching practices.
Additionally- the teacher will be responsible for evaluating and reporting for all students in his or her classes. (Student assessment)
He or she will be responsible for establishing a positive- encouraging- appropriate relationship with students in which they are both held to high standards and supported in their attempts to meet them.
A love of students and complete dedication to their success- combined with a passion for the Spanish language and culture- effective professional skills- a positive- team-centered personality- and a dedication to life-long learning are all necessary for teaching success.
He or she will work with other teachers and staff as a contributing team member to present a cooperative and positive adult work environment.
Implement instructional activities that contribute to a climate where students are actively engaged in meaningful learning experiences.
Provide a positive environment in which students are encouraged to be actively engaged in the learning process.
Facilitate activities and projects that incorporate communication- collaboration- creativity- and critical thinking.
Identify- select- and modify instructional resources to meet the needs of the students with varying backgrounds- learning styles- and special needs.
Communicate effectively- both orally and in writing- with students- parents- and other professionals on a regular basis.
Collaborate with peers to enhance the instructional environment.
Model professional and ethical standards when dealing with students- parents- peers- and community.
Participate in training and professional development.
Meet professional obligations through efficient work habits such as: meeting deadlines- honoring schedules- coordinating- etc.
Act in a professional and ethical manner at all times and comply with school policies- procedures- and expectations.
Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by their supervisor.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Education and a valid Kansas teaching certificate in the area of Spanish.
Knowledge of encouraging students to be global citizens and active members of our local communities- linguistically and culturally- which necessitates students being bilingual and culturally-literate in Spanish.
Aim to facilitate the development of strong comprehension and speaking skills- develop ease and confidence with reading and writing skills- encourage students’ integration of language learning across their daily academic experience- and introduce students to the joys and beauty of language learning.
Be flexible- positive- and proactive in the ability to manage multiple assignments. (Introductory Spanish classes as well as advanced classes.)
The ability to effectively communicate (verbally- electronically and in writing) with students- faculty- administration and parents.

Employer Information Labette County USD 506 encompasses 500 square miles of Labette County. The district serves over 1,600 students enrolled in a K-12 system, which is housed in five kindergarten through eighth grade elementary schools and one comprehensive high school serving grades nine through twelve. Administrative offices are located in the Curran Administrative Center, Altamont, KS. The district is a member of the Southeast Kansas Education Service Center and of the Southeast Kansas Interlocal #637. Communities served by the district are Altamont, Angola, Bartlett, Dennis, Edna, Valeda, Labette, Mound Valley, and a large portion of the west side of Parsons. Cities in the immediate area include Parsons, Coffeyville, and Independence. Larger cities nearby include Pittsburg, KS, Joplin, MO, and Bartlesville, OK.
