Job Description: K12 Art Teacher District: USD 344 Reports to: Building Principal(s) Department/School: Fine Arts / Assigned School(s) Exemption Status/Test: Exempt/Professional Date Revised: November 2025 Primary Purpose Provide high-quality visual arts instruction for students in grades K12 that fosters creativity, critical thinking, and artistic skill development. The Art Teacher supports the mission of USD 344 by delivering a comprehensive art curriculum aligned with Kansas standards, encouraging student expression, and promoting appreciation of the visual arts across grade levels. Qualifications Education/Certification/Licensure Bachelors degree in Art Education or related field required. Valid Kansas teaching license with appropriate endorsement for Art (K12). Special Knowledge/Skills Knowledge of Kansas visual arts standards and age-appropriate instructional practices. Ability to design and implement a vertically aligned K12 art curriculum. Proficiency in a variety of artistic media and techniques. Strong classroom management and student engagement skills. Ability to integrate technology and cross-curricular connections into art instruction. Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills. Ability to assess student learning using multiple measures. Experience Successful student teaching experience required. Previous K12 teaching experience preferred. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Instruction and Curriculum Develop and implement engaging art lessons aligned with Kansas standards and district curriculum goals. Provide instruction in a variety of media, techniques, and art forms appropriate for grades K12. Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse needs of students. Promote creativity, problem-solving, and self-expression through visual arts. Integrate art history, art criticism, and cultural awareness into instruction. Assessment and Student Progress Assess student learning through formative and summative evaluations. Maintain accurate records of student progress and communicate results with students and families. Provide timely and constructive feedback to support student growth. Classroom and Program Management Maintain a safe, organized, and positive learning environment. Manage art supplies, equipment, and classroom inventory responsibly. Follow district procedures for ordering, storage, and maintenance of materials. Display student artwork to celebrate achievement and promote school pride. Professional Responsibilities Collaborate with colleagues, administrators, and instructional staff to support student learning. Participate in professional development, faculty meetings, and district initiatives. Maintain appropriate licensure and comply with district, state, and federal requirements. Support district goals related to student engagement, achievement, and school culture. Student Engagement and School Involvement Encourage student participation in art-related activities, exhibits, and community events. Support school-wide programs and initiatives as assigned. Communicate effectively with students, parents, and staff. Compliance and Safety Follow all USD 344 policies, procedures, and expectations. Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all interactions. Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures. Working Conditions Mental Demands/Physical Requirements/Environmental Conditions Ability to maintain emotional control in a classroom setting. Frequent standing, walking, bending, and use of hands for instructional activities. Occasional lifting of art supplies and materials up to 25 pounds. Work in classroom and school environments with moderate noise levels. Supervisory Responsibilities This position does not supervise other employees.
