Primary Purpose: The High School Guidance Counselor helps students attain an optimum level of personal and social adjustment.  In order to coordinate a comprehensive counseling program, the Guidance Counselor must work closely with other staff and administration of U.S.D. No. 413.

Position Details:

  • Opening for the 2026-2027 school year
  • 7:45 - 3:30 PM contract hours daily

 Qualifications:

  1. Masters in School Counseling or Counseling preferred. Will consider a Bachelors Degree in Psychology or Education with willingness to pursue school counseling credentials. 
  2. Health and inoculation certificate on file in the Central Office
  3. Desire to continue career improvement.

Essential Functiona & General Responsibilities: 

  1. Help students attain an optimum level of personal and social adjustment.
  2. Consult with parents, teachers, administrators, and supporting agencies concerning the needs and abilities of students.
  3. Ensure that all activities conform to district guidelines.
  4. Communicate effectively with members of the school district and community.
  5. Work effectively with community organizations.
  6. React to change productively and handle other tasks as assigned.
  7. Support the value of an education.
  8. Support the philosophy and mission of U.S.D. No. 413.
  9. Provide individual counseling and group guidance to help students cope effectively with personal, social, academic, career and family concerns.
  10. Consult with parents, teachers, administrators, and supporting agencies concerning the needs and abilities of students.
  11. Implement a comprehensive appraisal process by:

               Selecting and administering appropriate ability, achievement, and interests                tests.
               Visiting with students and interviewing interested adults.
               Interpreting results to students, teachers, administrators, and parents.

   12. Update and maintain confidential student records, including cumulative                              transcripts and student files.

   13. Identify students with special needs and make appropriate recommendations and             referrals.

   14. Implement an effective program of educational and career planning.

   15. Schedule opportunities for students to visit with resource persons and recruiters               about academic and career choices.

   16. Maintain a current library of career and college information, and assist students in             using the information effectively.

   17. Provide information regarding financial aid and scholarships for college and                     vocational training.

   18. Assist with enrollment to ensure that students complete courses appropriate to                 their needs and which lead to graduation.

   19. Assist in a continuous program of student orientation.

   20. Assist in making recommendations for school curriculum and instructional                         practices.

   21. Oversight and maintenance of the Career and Technical Education Pathways.

   22. Assist with the activities of student organizations.

   23. Attend and assist, when necessary, with school events such as musical programs,           athletics, student recognition ceremonies, graduation, and open house.

   24. See that district policies are observed during all activities.

   25. Keep abreast of new information, innovative ideas and techniques.

   26. Obtain advance approval of the principal for all activities and expenditures.

   27. Adhere to all district health and safety policies, including all precautions of the                   bloodborne pathogens exposure control plan.

   28. Other duties as assigned by the principal, or other administrative staff.

   29. Serve on pre-assessment teams, attend meetings concerning the placement                     of students and serve on other committees as requested by administrators.

   30. Maintain an environment which provides privacy and protects                                             student/family information.

   31. Help plan, coordinate, and administer the school testing program.

   32. Pursue professional growth.

   33. Conduct follow-up studies of post-graduate students to help measure                               the effectiveness of the guidance program.

Physical Requirements:

  1. Requires prolonged sitting or standing.
  2. Occasionally requires physical exertion to manually move, lift, carry, pull, or push heavy objects or materials.
  3. Occasional stooping, bending, and reaching.
  4. Requires some travel.
  5. Must work in noisy and crowded environments.
