Job Summary

 

The School Media Specialist plays a vital role in promoting literacy, information literacy, and technology integration within the school community. They are responsible for managing the school library, curating resources, collaborating with educators, and providing guidance to students in research and information literacy skills.
 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor`s degree in Library Science and/or Library Media, Secondary Level Education Degree, or a related field (Master`s degree preferred).
  •  
  • Certification as a School Media Specialist or Librarian preferred.
  •  
  • Strong knowledge of library management systems and educational technology tools.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Passion for promoting literacy and information literacy skills among students.

  

Performance Responsibilities: 

Manage the school library, including cataloging, organizing, and maintaining a diverse collection of resources.

Collaborate with teachers to integrate information literacy skills and technology into the curriculum.

Ability to teach technology and/or individual plans of study in a classroom environment.

Provide guidance and support to students in selecting appropriate reading materials and conducting research.

Promote literacy initiatives and organize engaging library programs to foster a love for reading and learning.

Stay updated on current educational technology trends and tools, and provide training to students and staff.

Foster a welcoming and inclusive environment within the library that encourages exploration and learning.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to walk, sit, talk and hear.  The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. On occasion the employee may be required to work extended hours.
