School Behavioral Specialist

This position supports the schools initiatives with positive behavior supports and SEL programs working directly with identified students to adopt behaviors that substantially increase their academic performance.  In conjunction with the elementary building principals, the School Behavioral Specialist will provide diversified strategies and activities specifically designed for targeted students. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:     Other duties may be assigned. 

  1. Supports students in their acquisition of skills and knowledge to support positive behaviors in the school/classroom. 
  2. Promotes highly specialized positive behavior interventions that are explicit, intensive, and accelerated for at-risk students, providing direct support for students and working collaboratively with staff to design behavior intervention plans. 
  3. Is a positive mental health support and guide to nurture resiliency in our students continually supervising them while ensuring that it is done in a safe, non-threatening, caring environment so students can thrive. 
  4. Serves as a liaison between school and home advocating for new and improved school services to meet the needs of those involved. 
  5. Assists dysregulated students and partners with staff to support student regulation.  
  6. Works cooperatively with building administrators and other school stakeholders to promote positive student behavior. 
    1.  Supports new students to the school to successfully integrate them into the school community. 
  7. Provides professional development opportunities that target strategies, research, and models of instructional practices that support teachers in the successful implementation of a positive behavior model in their classrooms.  Assisting staff in defining and measuring behavior; understanding principals of reinforcements; teaching new behavior; implementing strategies for weakening behavior; and identifying antecedents. 
    1. Engages in on-going professional development to increase knowledge and skills of positive student behavior support for all students, targeted students, and students who represent sub-group populations. 
  8. Assists parents by engaging them in the student behavior intervention plan process and empowering them by providing skills and techniques to support positive behavior development in their child(ren). 
  9. Supports teachers/staff through participation in Special Education and General Education Intervention Plan (GEI). 
  10. Promptly and accurately keeps records and makes reports, using ongoing assessments to maintain a record of student progress, modeling good assessment processes that assist students in assessing their own work and behavior, reviewing behavior referrals and building SEL data reports. 
  11. Adheres to professional ethics and complies with all district rules, regulations, and policies. 
  12. Maintains confidentiality of student information.

Salary Information

Starting salary $49,000 with a bachelor’s degree based upon the 2025-2026 salary schedule, higher depending upon experience, graduate hours, and FTE.
