This position at Garfield Elementary provides a comprehensive guidance program for students in grades K-5. This position provides activities to meet the needs of their assigned caseload; consults with teachers, staff, and parents to enhance their effectiveness in helping students; and provides support to other elementary school staff and educational programs.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:     Other duties may be assigned.

  1. Counsels classrooms, small groups, and individual students to develop good school habits and positive life skills.
  2. Coordinates with teachers to facilitate the infusion of counseling learning activities into the regular education curricula.
  3. Meets with small groups and individual students to assist with problems, referring severe problems to appropriate community resources.
  4. Consults with teachers, staff, and parents to meet the development needs of students.
  5. Evaluates and revises the building counseling program.
  6. Attends various school functions, parent meetings, conferences, and other related school events as requested.
  7. Meets with the building Child Study Team.
  8. Responds to crisis situations as requested.
  9. Coordinates a testing program for the building.
  10. Maintains confidential  information about students.

Salary Information

Starting salary $48,500 with a bachelor’s degree based upon the 2024-2025 salary schedule, higher depending upon experience, graduate hours, and FTE.  New teachers will be paid $100 per day to attend up to four (4) new teacher orientation days.
