TITLE: Migrant/ESL Director REPORTS TO: Building Principal PURPOSE: To help students demonstrate success as it relates to defined curriculum outcomes, and to help students cope with their changes form childhood through adulthood and with the academic skills and knowledge essential for good citizenship and life-long learning. To provide classroom instruction consistent with the course of study as specified by the State of Kansas, The Board of Education of U.S.D. No. 215 and appropriate curriculum development committees. QUALIFICATIONS: - Bachelor's or Master's degree in Education with SOL Certification.
- ESL certification required or willingness to get license.
- Bilingual (Spanish) preferred.
- Strong leadership and organizational abilities.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work with diverse student populations.
- Proficiency in curriculum development and assessment strategies. Familiarity with language acquisition theories and instructional technology.
DIRECTOR RESPONSIBILITIES: - Develop and oversee the ESL program curriculum, ensuring alignment with educational standards.
- Monitor and assess program effectiveness, implementing improvements as needed.
- Train, mentor, and support ESL teachers and staff.
- Coordinate ESL student placement, assessments, and progress tracking.
- Advocate for ESL students and ensure access to necessary resources and support
services. - Communicate with school administrators, parents, and the community about program
goals and student success. - Stay updated on best practices in ESL education and implement new methodologies.
- Manage program budget, materials, and resources.
TEACHING RESPONSIBILITIES: - Plan and deliver engaging ESL lessons that cater to students' varying proficiency levels.
- Utilize a variety of instructional strategies, including technology, to enhance language acquisition.
- Assess student progress through formative and summative evaluations.
- Foster a supportive and inclusive classroom environment.
- Collaborate with teachers, parents, and staff to support student learning.
- Provide additional support through tutoring, workshops, or small group instruction.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS: - Occasionally requires physical exertion to manually move, lift, carry, pull or push heavy objects or materials.
- Occasionally requires stooping, bending, and reaching.
- Must work in noisy and crowded environments.
- Valid drivers license.
- Adhere to all district health and safety policies, including all precautions of the Bloodborne Pathogens Exposure Control Plan.
