RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential Functions -  

  1. Participate in planning and organizing nursing curriculum, including the establishment of course competencies and syllabi development as defined by the Kansas State Board of Nursing and/or Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN). 
  2. Teach effectively the approved theory and clinical curriculum to prepare students to become practical nurses. Assignments may include evening/weekend courses and non-traditional scheduling, and may include teaching via alternative delivery systems, including interactive video conferencing.
  3. Create and maintain a positive educational climate designed to enhance learning and motivation. 
  4. Utilize appropriate teaching methodologies and instructional materials to meet students' needs and abilities. 
  5. Participate in continuous evaluation of nursing preparation program. 
  6. Participate in recruitment/admission of students for both the college and the PN program. 
  7. Attend required, pertinent faculty activities for both the college and the PN program.
  8. Assist in the orientation process of new faculty. 
  9. Assume responsibility for organizing and implementing assigned clinical/simulation experiences in collaboration with program coordinator and cooperating agencies. 
  10. Document and evaluate student progress; provide feedback and academic counseling as necessary to promote successful learning. 
  11. Assist in facilitating appropriate student activities including promotion/graduation. 
  12. Maintain requirements of accrediting and cooperating agencies and parent organizations. 
  13. Display positive professionalism. 
  14. Pursue professional development through a range of activities, e.g., classes, workshops, training, CEUs. 
  15. Participate in and support assessment, program review and documentation of student learning outcomes.
  16. Serve actively on campus committees.
  17. Arrive on time for work, attend work regularly, and successfully complete the responsibilities of the position.
  18. Comply with HutchCC policies, procedures and practices.

 Secondary functions -  

  1. May advise current or prospective students. 
  2. Perform other responsibilities as assigned by the Department Chairperson, the Program Coordinator, the Vice President of Academic Affairs, or as indicated in the Master Agreement. 

 QUALIFICATIONS:

  1.  Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing required; Masters Degree in Nursing preferred.
  2. Current license as a registered nurse in the state of Kansas. 
  3. Minimum of two years nursing experience required. 
  4. Certification in cardiopulmonary resuscitation required. 
  5. Ability to work effectively with students, staff, faculty and community people.
  6. Physical activities will include lifting up to 50 pounds, walking, bending, stooping, reaching, pushing/pulling, carrying, etc; excellent written, verbal and listening communication skills; ability to understand words and respond effectively and appropriately; visual acuity to view a computer terminal; use appropriate judgment, tact, and courtesy in difficult situations; medium/indoor work environment.
  7. Mental requirements include the ability to learn and comprehend basic instructions about the position.
  8. Physical and mental qualifications must be performed with or without a reasonable accommodation.

Salary Information

The salary is determined per the 2024-25 Hiring Salary Schedule in the local HutchCC Master Agreement. This full-time faculty position is nine months annual + 10 additional days (180 work days per contract, based on contract renewal), due process rights eligible, benefit eligible, and exempt.
