Title:  District Technology Specialist - Canvas Integration (12 Months) 

 

Reports to:  Director of Technology

 

Position Summary:  The district technology specialist will help support all of the technology needs of the building and district by working with staff to train and troubleshoot any technology issues that may arise specifically related to Canvas and other curriculum technological platforms.  

 

Qualifications:

  1. Use of operating systems and software applications.
  2. MacOS- iPadOs and Chrome OS experience preferred
  3. Customer service techniques and principles.
  4. Skills in communication and customer service.
  5. User training- installing- re-installing and upgrading mainstream operating systems- software applications and computer equipment- including peripherals.
  6. Act as a resource to entry-level staff.
  7. Install- re-install and upgrade mainstream operating systems- software applications and computer equipment- including peripherals.

 

Essential Functions:

 

  • Canvas district manager - Develop- train and troubleshoot staff and student questions.  Develop courses and integrate through the MS- HS and VS platforms.

 

  1. Install- maintain- and support a variety of Apple devices- Chromebooks and PC computers.
  2. Provide technical support for classroom computers and iPads- library- and administrative computer systems.
  3. Participates in meetings- workshops and/or training for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform job functions.
  4. Performs initial workstation computer- peripheral and (e.g. installation- testing- configuring- assigning passwords- security clearances- imaging- etc.) for the purpose of meeting the computer processing needs of the users.
  5. Prepares a variety of written materials (e.g. procedures- documentation- reports- memos- letters- etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities- providing written reference- and/or conveying information.
  6. Provides training and in-service in general computer use- software applications- and file server operations for the purpose of ensuring the efficient use of computers and/or software applications.
  7. Researches software applications for the purpose of recommending standardized applications in accordance with the district`s technology goals.
  8. Responds to requests for help- repairs- training- and/or upgrades- etc. by telephone or email for the purpose of providing information- scheduling appointments and/or referring to alternate resources.
  9. Responds to inquiries from a variety of district personnel for the purpose of providing support- technical advice and operational assistance.
  10. Trains and assists personnel in the proper use of district technology resources for the purpose of ensuring their ability to use new and/or existing processes.
  11. Troubleshoots user issues with computer workstations and servers (e.g. questions about application software- connectivity issues- peripheral malfunctions- etc.) for the purpose of providing immediate assistance to users for problem resolution.
  12. Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Technology- Director of Teaching and Learning and/or Superintendent.

Physical Requirements:  Physical and emotional ability and dexterity to perform required work and move about as needed in the work environment. Regular attendance and/or physical presence at the job is required.

 

  1.     Must have physical stamina to maintain job responsibilities.
    2. Requires occasional stooping- bending- kneeling- reaching- and turning.

Basehor-Linwood Unified School District 458 serves students and families in a 90 square mile area of southern Leavenworth County, Kansas. We currently have 8 district attendance centers. Our Early Learning Center for Childcare and Pre-K opened for the 2020-21 school year in August. K-5 buildings are located in Bonner Springs, Basehor and the Glenwood Ridge subdivision. A new K-5 building, located in Basehor, opened in the Fall 2021. Students in grades 6, 7 and 8 attend Basehor-Linwood Middle School in Basehor, near the center of the district. Basehor-Linwood High School, located in Basehor, is a 5A school, serving students in grades 9 through 12. 

 

BLHS was named a 2012 National Blue Ribbon School. In addition, the district operates Basehor-Linwood Virtual School, an internet-based school serving approximately 250 K-12 students statewide instructed by Basehor-Linwood teachers.

 

Special Education services are provided by the Tonganoxie/Basehor-Linwood Special Education Cooperative located in Basehor.
