School Nurse - Middle School

Basehor-Linwood USD 458 is currently seeking a School Nurse at the Basehor-Linwood Middle School for the 2025-2026 school year. LPN or RN certification required.

 

THE REGISTERED PROFESSIONAL NURSE (School Nurse) SHALL:

  1. Provide management and leadership of the school health service program- specifically to coordinate development of school health policies and procedures. The following is a minimum listing of policies and procedures to be developed for a school health services program:
  • Communicable Disease Control/Mandatory Reporting Compliance
  • Delegation of Nursing Care for Children with Special Health Needs
  • Delegation of Medication Administration
  • Emergency “First Response” Care
  • Bloodborne Pathogens
  • School Screening Programs
  • Individual Health Care Plans (Development- Communication and Recording)
  1. Manage- plan and supervise the school screening program and make re-screen and referral decisions. The mandated screening services shall include the following:
  • Hearing
  • Vision
  • Dental

     The optional screening services shall include the following:

  • Height- Weight/BMI
  • Scoliosis
  • Blood Pressure
  1. Serve as a member of the Individual Educational Plan (IEP) Team with preparation of Individual Health Care Plans (IHPs) for students with health needs within the school setting.
  2. Provide communicable disease surveillance and control with provision of on-site immunization program coordination as appropriate.
  3. Provide comprehensive health appraisals- including Kan-Be-Healthy Screens and Child Health Assessment at School Entry physicals- with referral and follow-up as needed.
  4. Participate on the school health education curriculum committee and function as a health education resource person to school administration- faculty and students.
  5. Manage the school health room and deliver nursing interventions to the school population as necessary.
  6. Provide environmental surveillance for health and safety hazards.
  7. Document and report health needs of students and services rendered to students and school staff.

Physical Requirements:  Physical and emotional ability and dexterity to perform required work and move about as needed in the work environment. Regular attendance and/or physical presence at the job is required.

 

  1. Must occasionally work in noisy and crowded environments- with numerous
    interruptions.
    2. Must have physical stamina to maintain job responsibilities.
    3. Requires occasional stooping- bending- kneeling- reaching- and turning.

Term of Employment: Academic school year as assigned. 

 

Evaluation:  Performance effectiveness will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of Kansas Statutes and Board of Education Policy.

Basehor-Linwood Unified School District 458 serves students and families in a 90 square mile area of southern Leavenworth County, Kansas. We currently have 8 district attendance centers. Our Early Learning Center for Childcare and Pre-K opened for the 2020-21 school year in August. K-5 buildings are located in Bonner Springs, Basehor and the Glenwood Ridge subdivision. A new K-5 building, located in Basehor, opened in the Fall 2021. Students in grades 6, 7 and 8 attend Basehor-Linwood Middle School in Basehor, near the center of the district. Basehor-Linwood High School, located in Basehor, is a 5A school, serving students in grades 9 through 12. 

 

BLHS was named a 2012 National Blue Ribbon School. In addition, the district operates Basehor-Linwood Virtual School, an internet-based school serving approximately 250 K-12 students statewide instructed by Basehor-Linwood teachers.

 

Special Education services are provided by the Tonganoxie/Basehor-Linwood Special Education Cooperative located in Basehor.
