QUALIFICATIONS: The candidate must possess: A valid Kansas teaching license with special education (K-12) and physical education endorsements A valid Kansas drivers license Experience working with students with physical and/or developmental disabilities Experience working collaboratively with teams and families
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Previous experience as an Adaptive Physical Education Teacher
REPORTS TO: TBLSEC Special Education Administrators and USD 458 & USD 464 Building Principals
JOB SUMMARY: The Adapted Physical Education Teacher is responsible for developing and implementing an IEP program based on the students gross motor and Physical Education needs.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: Assesses needs of students Writes assessment reports identifying the students needs Writes IEP goals and objectives related to physical education Participates in the IEP meeting Implements IEP in the physical education setting Teaches content and skills in physical fitness and wellness, health education, and individual, dual, or team sports Works cooperatively with other physical education teachers in including students with physical and/or developmental disabilities in the general education PE classroom Maintains progress data Collaborates with other providers Adapts physical education equipment to address student needs Adapts or modifies instruction to meet individual needs Utilizes variety of research-based instructional practices and current resources that support instructional goals and student needs Performs related duties as assigned

Employer Information Basehor-Linwood Unified School District 458 serves students and families in a 90 square mile area of southern Leavenworth County, Kansas. We currently have 8 district attendance centers. Our Early Learning Center for Childcare and Pre-K opened for the 2020-21 school year in August. K-5 buildings are located in Bonner Springs, Basehor and the Glenwood Ridge subdivision. A new K-5 building, located in Basehor, opened in the Fall 2021. Students in grades 6, 7 and 8 attend Basehor-Linwood Middle School in Basehor, near the center of the district. Basehor-Linwood High School, located in Basehor, is a 5A school, serving students in grades 9 through 12.
BLHS was named a 2012 National Blue Ribbon School. In addition, the district operates Basehor-Linwood Virtual School, an internet-based school serving approximately 250 K-12 students statewide instructed by Basehor-Linwood teachers.
Special Education services are provided by the Tonganoxie/Basehor-Linwood Special Education Cooperative located in Basehor.
