Elementary School Counselor K-5, Gray Hawk ElementaryBasehor-Linwood USD 458 • www.usd458.org DESCRIPTION: As a member of the counseling department, our elementary counselors provide a comprehensive guidance program for students in grades K-5. Provide activities to meet the needs of assigned case-loads; consult with teachers, staff, and parents to enhance their effectiveness in helping students and provide support to other elementary educational programs.
RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Help students attain an optimum level of personal and social adjustment. 2. Provide individual counseling and group instruction to help students cope effectively with personal, social, academic, career, and family concerns. 3. Consult with parents, teachers, administrators, and supporting agencies concerning the needs and abilities of students. 4. Implement a comprehensive appraisal process by:
5. Ensure that all activities conform to district guidelines. 6. Communicate effectively with all members of the school district and community. 7. Work effectively with community organizations. 8. React to change productively and handle other tasks as assigned. 9. Support the value of education. 10. Support the mission and vision of U.S.D. #458. 11. Update and maintain confidential student records. 12. Assist in a continuous program of student orientation. 13. Assist in making recommendations for school curriculum and instructional practices. 14. Assist with the activities of student organizations. 15. See that district policies are observed during all activities. 16. Keep abreast of new information, innovative ideas and techniques. 17. Adhere to all district health and safety policies, including all precautions of the Bloodborne Pathogens Exposure Control Plan. 18. Other duties as assigned by the Principal, or other Administrative Staff.

Term of Employment: 10 months (198 Days); Academic school year as assigned. Employer Information Basehor-Linwood Unified School District 458 serves students and families in a 90 square mile area of southern Leavenworth County, Kansas. We currently have 8 district attendance centers. Our Early Learning Center for Childcare and Pre-K opened for the 2020-21 school year in August. K-5 buildings are located in Bonner Springs, Basehor and the Glenwood Ridge subdivision. A new K-5 building, located in Basehor, opened in the Fall 2021. Students in grades 6, 7 and 8 attend Basehor-Linwood Middle School in Basehor, near the center of the district. Basehor-Linwood High School, located in Basehor, is a 5A school, serving students in grades 9 through 12.
BLHS was named a 2012 National Blue Ribbon School. In addition, the district operates Basehor-Linwood Virtual School, an internet-based school serving approximately 250 K-12 students statewide instructed by Basehor-Linwood teachers.
Special Education services are provided by the Tonganoxie/Basehor-Linwood Special Education Cooperative located in Basehor. USD 458 is part of a vibrant, growing suburban area with expanding student population and tax base.
