Basehor-Linwood is currently seeking a building secretary for the 2026-2027 school year at Glenwood Ridge Elementary School.

 

Reports to:  Building Principal

 

Qualifications:

  • Enjoys working with children- faculty members- school patrons- and vendors

  • Has a congenial personality

  • Is patient- flexible- and has strong situational problem solving skills

  • Has experience working on Mac computers

  • Has experience using Word- Excel- and Google Docs

  • Is knowledgeable in all general office duties including bookkeeping

  • Has strong organizational skills

Overview of Responsibilities:

Daily/Weekly

  • Answers telephone calls

  • Records absences- late arrivals and early dismissals in Skyward Student Information software

  • Sorts daily mail from District Office and USPS

  • Creates correspondence- runs copies and makes phone calls for the principal when necessary

  • Maintains school website

  • Prepares bi-weekly newsletters

  • Prepares weekly reports

Monthly

  • Performs bank reconciliation in accounting software

  • Schedules Fire/Tornado Drills with alarm company

  • Performs month end processing in accounting software

  • Sends out instructional/textbook fee reminders of outstanding accounts

Quarterly                         

  • Organizes mid-term and quarterly grade cards

  • Creates and prints quarterly awards for attendance

As Needed

  • Creates programs- flyers- parent notes- announcements- etc.

  • Prepares purchase orders and prints checks to pay bills in accounting software

  • Prepares deposits for bank and records in accounting software

  • Enrolls and withdraws students

  • Calls repair people for copier/laminator/etc.

  • Performs some nursing duties during nurse’s absence (such as providing medication- taking temperature- etc.)

  • Lunchroom supervision

Physical Requirements:  Physical and emotional ability and dexterity to perform required work and move about as needed in the work environment. Regular attendance and/or physical presence at the job is required.

 

  1.     Must have physical stamina to maintain job responsibilities.
    2. Requires occasional stooping- bending- kneeling- reaching- and turning.

Term of Employment: 208 Days; Academic school year as assigned.

Basehor-Linwood Unified School District 458 serves students and families in a 90 square mile area of southern Leavenworth County, Kansas. We currently have 8 district attendance centers. Our Early Learning Center for Childcare and Pre-K opened for the 2020-21 school year in August. K-5 buildings are located in Bonner Springs, Basehor and the Glenwood Ridge subdivision. A new K-5 building, located in Basehor, opened in the Fall 2021. Students in grades 6, 7 and 8 attend Basehor-Linwood Middle School in Basehor, near the center of the district. Basehor-Linwood High School, located in Basehor, is a 5A school, serving students in grades 9 through 12. 

 

BLHS was named a 2012 National Blue Ribbon School. In addition, the district operates Basehor-Linwood Virtual School, an internet-based school serving approximately 250 K-12 students statewide instructed by Basehor-Linwood teachers.

 

Special Education services are provided by the Tonganoxie/Basehor-Linwood Special Education Cooperative located in Basehor.
